    Its still 95 octane. It has different additives, detergants, and possibly a different mix to obtain the 95 figure - differing oxygenates could have an impact on performance, for instance.

    I find I get signficantly less mileage on Tesco petrol too, but no performance issues.

    ive a 91 mini cooper. I use texaco petrol:D, with this new techron stuff in it(its meant to protect engine internals), i have to say, the car loves the stuff, the difference in performance between that and esso and statoils is amazing(not saying they are the same!!). Its a bit expensive at 1.19 when i filled up last but , i think its great.
    my mate has a glanza 1.3 non turbo and his runs better on it too.
    i really believe you get what you pay for. also i couldnt be arsed queing at teso for petrol 2c cheaper(and rubbish by the sounds of it!!)
    i didnt spend 3g on a engine build just to skimp on the oil and petrol i put into it.

    For a long time, I filled up with Tesco petrol because it was cheapest per litre in the area.

    Then, one day about 6 months ago I was caught short and filled up with Shell V Max- I couldn't get over the different. The engine felt much smoother and the car much pokier in comparison to what I had become used to. Also, although it costed about 5c/litre more it lasted a lot longer.

    I haven't been back to Tesco for petrol since - i think its a false economy to only consider the price per litre.

    My tuppence worth.
    I had a 1.8 TD 00 Mondeo.I brought it to a Diesel pump specialist engineer who came highly recommended by a lot of people I spoke to.1 of the injectors had seized and he gave me his opinion on why.
    When I went back to pick up the car he told me that to stop buying cheap diesel.I told him that I usually mix the fuels with the different makes BUT have bought it a couple of times from a certain place (which I wont name unless mods allow it) which was very cheap.He told me that Diesel is different everywhere AND AVOID THE CHEAP STUFF.IT'S CHEAP FOR A REASON.
    I was lucky only cost me €150 for the injector but if I could has easily damaged my fuel pump if I continued to run on the cheap stuff. As he said with some cars you can replace each injector seperatley and isnt too bad cost wise but with some you have to change the lot if 1 goes and the cost can run to 4 figures.
    I have also noticed that when I am in France on hols in my jeep that even though I give it a good service just before I go thru the course of the few weeks I am there it gets smokier and smokier the longer we are there.I usally fill up on supermarket fuel (anyone who has been will know the price diff.)In the future I will not be using supermarket fuel as I believe this to be the problem.Sod the price.
    Just my experience.
    And remember it is Diesel I am talking about.

    For the record I got just under 300,000 miles on the Mondeo before the original clutch went and was still driving on a sniff of Diesel!!

    Germany also sells 91 RON.

    The Americans call it "octane number" for a reason, we call it "RON", because an Octane number is the average of the RON and MON(Motor Octane Number). 87 Octane in the US is the same as 91RON here, and "Premium Gas" or 91 Octane as they call it is what we call 95 RON.

    E5 here is 99 RON, there should be an improvement in the performance of JDM, direct injection and high performance petrol engined cars(these would not be set up for 95 RON).

    It should use around 3-4% more fuel than normal 95 RON set up car running on 95 RON(but with a car set up for 98 RON or higher in the case of a JDM car, it should only use a fraction more fuel).

    I never use the cheap ass petrol, if it sounds too good to be true.... and plus I've heard a few stories about the "quality":rolleyes: of the discount petrol as well on Motors(and not just this thread either)!

    Except the US doesn't use MON, it uses PON - an average of MON and RON. And MON/RON vary only due to completely different testing systems used, an octane rating is an octane rating and if tested identically the numbers are, obviously, identical.

    Remember that octane - which is a measure of the auto ignition factor of a fuel and nothing more - is not the be all and end all of its quality. You can have 91 PON fuel (which is 95RON, ish) thats complete and utter piss compared to 95 RON from a different vendor in Europe. And you can have 95 RON thats piss compared to another 95 RON...

    I think the best thing for people to do is to try out different brands as possible in their cars and see which one suits it best.If if it crap for the engine you will know it fairly quickly.Different cars different set ups.

    Texaco outside Rathfarnham village sell premium with techron and all (we know it's not higher Octane anymore) for the same price as regular. In fact they don't sell regular. I got the stuff for 115.something last night. Anybody who gets Tesco petrol in Dundrum would be better off going to Texaco Rathfarnham IMHO.

    Maynooth Road Interchange, Celbridge if you want the address off the receipts. Its only barely in Celbridge if you consider that Crofton's Garage is in Maynooth ;)

    I suspect he was refering to washed diesel which does destroy engines. I saw a power floater once which was ruined by washed diesel. The fuel filter was blocked and the engine corroded

    Oh and i buy tesco diesel sometimes, no difference to any other fuel. Mpg is always +/- 5 mpg
