Car alarm and start

    Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of advice here. Out of the blue a week ago my car (99 Hyundai Coupe) wouldn't start and a beeping noise from the alarm system went off. I turned the alarm on and off and started and it was fine. A few hours later the car just wouldn't start. We towed it and it got started. but when I turned engine off the car wouldn't start again.

I took it to the mechanic who checked it over and found that the bolts holding the starter in place came lose and wrecked the housing. He said the starter was fine and he had a welding job done and it seemed all was fine.

It worked fine for a few days and then the same problem. The mechanic disconnected the battery and reconnected it and all was fine again. He reckons the alarm is the problem and says either it needs to be reset or there's a problem with my fob key and I'm going to change the battery in it.

In the meantime I haven't been arming the alarm and am just locking the car manually. The engine seems to start fine. At the same time I'm in terror of the car not starting and leaving me in the lurch - I need it for the morning commute.

    Questions:

    * Is it a case of getting the alarm reset and who can do it?
    * Is it a much bigger problem?

    Any advice would be welcome,

    Jake

My initial thought would be the immobiliser as well

yep, defo sounds like an aftermarket imobiliser., could be a case of faulty wiring or the relay for the immobiliser inside the alarm module is knackered,.,

Not sure of make of immobiliser, came with the car (2nd hand). Are there alarm specialists around that can fix this? Also, if I lock car manually and stay away from arming alarm do you reckon car will keep starting? It is for the moment. Jake

Any stickers on the window to indicate the alarm make or on the fob or siren under the bonnet?

    Where abouts are you located

make it sound and then find the siren, there should be clues on there, if not follow the wiring back to find the other components of the alarm.,
