    I'm sure most of you already know about this, but after my cable broke I was forced to renew. Following the guidelines of the inimitable Sheldon Brown (http://sheldonbrown.com/cables.html) took about 30 minutes, materials 20 quid.
    But what a difference.
    I used to hate replacing my brakes because it took an eternity of tweaking to get anything vaguely useful, but with the new cable it just worked right first time. I used to think the cantilever bearings were sticky, now I know the reason, it's the cable stupid.

    cable = e8, handlebar tape was 12. Bit pricy alright, and I only used half of it.

    These are really good;

    Take time and care to fit and you'll have years of trouble free shifting.
