Hi guys it is with a heavy sad heart that i have to announce that the Salthill Airshow is no more due to lack of funds from Galway City Council and others......... A terrible sad day im disgusted shame on all the people who put down the trojan work that has gone into this to make it absolutely FREE for everybody and you will never EVER see Salthill as busy as it was on any Airshow day, Airshows happen all over the world and the Organisers pulled in everything for us like the RAF Red Arrows and the USAF Thunderbirds for FREE im disgusted when the likes of the GAAW do what they do you make me SICK TO MY STOMACH. GAAW the effect you have had on the Airshow and now the local economy is sickening your entitled to your views but you went too far Airshows happen everywhere Salthill will now return to a Ghost Town, You make me sick.

To Brian McGrath,Carolyn Shiels and Tony Gibson i bow my hat to you, thanks for the memories.

    :mad::mad::mad:

I imagine its galway activists against war or some other self important title opossing all wars, as long as they're wars spearheaded by the Great Satan (USA) and its sidekick, the Little Satan (UK). Wars fought by despots elsewhere aren't worth mentioning.

maybe you could go get the other kind of bombers, suicide bomber and parade them around like heroes, like you did the USAF? Bombers = bombers.

of course the cancelling of this show had nothing to do with GAAW it was financial insurance wasn't it, why say otherwise?

Hi all, terrible news indeed. I think the OP ment "others" as in other people who contributed to the Show, obviously the GAAW had nothing to do with the cancellation of the show but they really were a pain in the a**, ive seen their letters in the media and they disgusted me. As for parading bombers? I fail to see that as point i really do, there are other Airshow's all over the world and now Ireland has nothing, a sad day indeed guys.

    AT.

What about all the SAR equipment that was displayed? And the Aer Arann ATR's??

maybe insurance is a HUGE factor, not helped by the fact that a door fell off the RAF merlin last year.

But people like the GAAW are partly responsible, and I feel that they will have a lot to answer for when next years timeframe comes around and there is no more than the usual summer business, with nothing like the crowds that have been there for the past number of years.

It'd be hard for suicide bombers or other terrorists to do an air show at Salthill, unless they were taken up in a plane & dropped into the sea - which would be no bad thing.

Personally I was thinking they could be dropped (from great height) onto the runway for guaranteed martyrdom............

How could they possibly be against a show that made so many people happy and brought in so much revenue into the area.
What is GAAW's purpose? to sit around and complain about one of the best things ever to happen to the town?!

    Thats just shocking
    GAAW you really are sad

i went to my first air show this year the one with the door falling. I thought it was the best air show I had ever been to. Not just the air show but the great display the army put on the ground also. My son and I finaly got to hold a styer and an LMG. The A10 were fantastic.
Had every intention of going again next year and staying in a BnB this time. I will probabally never be in Galway again now. Its all about money really and its a pity there is no more.

The incident with the door falling off the chopper gave them a lot of leverage unfortunately.

I dont want to keep repeating myself guys it was not a door, it was an emergency egress hatch, which is part of a door.

Just when I thought you topped yourself with this

You come out with the above.

We get it, you know EVERYTHING. Now please stop interrupting the flow of conversation.

It will be great to see the Galway council pleade for it to be brought back when all the shops miss out on a day of pure profit. Fools.

What are the chances of the show moving to Bray Co. Wicklow?? Is it the same crowd that organise both. Does this mean all the resources would be put into a Bray Show?

The first Bray airshow about 3 years ago was great. I was suprised that the lineup was almost identical to that same years show in Salthill. I thought it would have been a poor relation. The following year it wasn't on because of the insurance issue and/or opposition to casual traders licences or something. I'm a resident retailer in the town and I thought the attitude of the other traders was disgraceful. They weren't prepared to chip in on the costs of the event but wanted all of the profits. There was more than enough business to go around to resident and casual trader alike.

The main issues must have been resolved because there was a show this year however his years show wasn't as good because it was basically just aircorp. There were no other display teams. I mean the aircorp were great but there just weren't enough displays and the gaps between were too long. It most definately was a poor relation this year. A10's, Thunderbirds Display team etc WOW!!

I think Salthills shortsighted loss could be Brays gain. Could be a much bigger event what with Dublin on the doorstep and the transport links to the City.

Possibly, perhaps if the Bray airshow moved to the Salthill date in June. But I think it's too late really.

It is indeed, for us, Military acts ( Foreign/Home ) had to have all their paper work before Nov/Dec. Same goes for Civillian Displays etc.
