varnishing wood

    hi all

Right, this is going to sound a little strange but bear with me.

We have a mix of oak/ash doors, skirting and architrave which on balance works well as we've "grouped" the different woods

However we need to place white oak next to ash in a couple of places. When varnishing (clear eggshell) we've noticed that the ash tends to "lighten" whereas the oak can tend to "darken" on varnishing.

My question for any wood experts out there is whether we can do anything to avoid this - varnishes to use, avoid, etc.

When all is said and done the contrast won't offend me - when all is said and done the wood itself is beautiful - I just wondered if there was any advice.

    Thanks
    SSE
