What to expect when changing to smart?

    Hi,

Smart came to my exchange a couple of months and I finally got myself organised to switch over. When I first rang up to order, I was told right at the end that I would need to cancel my current DSL the next day and then wait for Smart to be get installed - they couldn't take over a non-eircom DSL line (I'm with Digiweb). I can't do without my BB for that length of time so I didn't order then but instead organised a loan of a mate's O2 broadband modem for a few days to tide me over (great bit of kit btw!).

When I ordered it again about 10 days ago, it turns out that the situation has changed and they can in fact take over a Digiweb line without me cancelling it. So the question - has anyone been through this process? What happens exactly? Will my Smart credentials arrive before I get cut off from Digiweb? Or will I still be without DSL for a few days in between them cutting off Digiweb and getting me going on Smart? Final question - do I need to stop the Digiweb direct debit myself or will Digi stop collecting once the line is cancelled?

    Cheers,
    Colm

Any downtime you endure will be worth it in the longterm.

Ha - good point :) To be fair to Digiweb, their service has been fine over the years I've had it. Its just for less money I can move to Smart and get a 6mb line instead of a 3mb one - yay :)

Anyone thoughts from someone who has been through the changeover process?

Are you far from the telephone exchange.

6Mbit would be dependant on a good line.

Changeover for me was less than 2 weeks, which was nice :)

I'm not exactly clear where the exchange is, but I get a steady 3mb from digiweb so I have my fingers crossed :) Its two weeks today but I know that they fecked up my order already (the order wasn't marked as a change of DSL so it was rejected when they saw digiweb on the line) so apparently just one more week to wait - can't wait :)

Did you have any downtime when you switched?

If your line can handle 3Mb on adsl then it will be able to handle 6Mb adsl2.

Allowing for some overhead, I think thats a nice 3mb result. I'll post the same pic after I've got Smart :)

I've been waiting a month and a half for smart to set me up. I called them after there 21 business days, and they said it would take another week. I called again and they said they were waiting on account details for the direct debit, no one told me that before. Been told now that it'll take another week. :(
