Believe me I'd notice it if my missus got one done. They look quality so if you can handle the pain do it!

What type of wax did they use? Was it strips or was it hot wax (the type of wax that hardens on your skin and is then pulled off??)
If it was the strips then try and go to a salon where they use hot wax instead! The stips are so much more painful, especially for sensitive areas!! I always get a brazillian using hot wax! Once though I went to a different salon and she used strips and it hurt so much more and afterwards it didn't look smooth there were all this little red bumps for days afterwards!!

I'm too chicken :o. I got a bikini wax before (not a Brazillian) and it hurt like hell. I'm trying to pluck up the courage to get a Brazillian but so far I haven't been able to. I have a gift voucher for a beauticians and everything...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 848 ✭✭✭MayMay

Same here, got it done once and it hurt like hell, I just shave now. Though that doesn't last long and I get shaving spots after but I can't handle the wax pain so it'll have to do. Is Veet or anything like that better than shaving by the way? Always get shaving spots after shaving and they last for ages.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 436 ✭✭lezizi

Ya i agree that the hot wax is better it just takes longer to do.
Im a beautician and i used get my bikini line done every 3 weeks but since i had my baby i have just been lazy about it, so i thought i would get a brazilian to spice things up a bit;)
I have been using veet but it only lasts a few days

I use an epliator. Tricky but effective. And yeah, those things hurt like hell. :)

Yeah I find hot wax waaaaaaay better for brazilians!!

    hmm.... that reminds me...!!

not a chance. i had a bikini wax once and it hurt like hell. she butchered me and not only was my skin unsightly red and spotty but i walked like John Wayne for days because it hurt so much to have anything rubbing against it.

    i use Veet or shave.

Ladies. I certainly notice it but I don't know how yous even contemplate it. You could have my firstborn before i'd let anyone near my tackle with wax. If you want to do something your boyfriend might appreciate i'm sure he would settle for a bj or maybe a threesome.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,475 ✭✭✭Lil' Smiler

Ah no i don't do it for my bf, never have done! i just don't like too much body hair, i have to shave my legs nearly every 2nd day and same with under arms. i just hate having a bush full of hair down there! it just has to be waxed!!!

Girls! Have you not heard of the marvellous new invention called "No Scream Cream" or something like that, im not at home so cant check. I go to Urban Wax for my Hollywood... Yes Hollywood... that means absolutelly nothing left down there!

Anyway the cream works a treat, you put it on about an hour before your treatment and put on your clothes as normal, and then when you get the waxing done it's nothing short of a miracle. Now i'm not saying you go numb down there or anything, but it certainly makes it ALOT more bearable. TRY IT!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,475 ✭✭✭Lil' Smiler

I have to say I much prefer a Hollywood, depends on the mood i'm in treally though!!

I heard something about the cream but I thought that you weren't meant to have any creams or anything on before waxing??

I used to get them every 4 weeks for about a year. It was great. I felt much better about myself, even though noone really saw it except my other half. When i started saving to go away it was one of the things that got cut. It saves me €60 I miss it though! When I'm away and not saving I'll go for it again. It wasn't too painful, in the grand scheme of things!

Hey... I'm a lil confused!! There's lotsa different types of waxes available right?! A lotta people here are mentioning Bikini waxing... Brazillian waxes are different though... Aren't they??? Now I dunno what's what!! :o

hair removal cream is a life saver i swear by it cos 1 waxing can be expensive and 2 its bloody sore. how much attention can be paid to that area like

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,475 ✭✭✭Lil' Smiler

Does Immac.. or veet or whatever it's called now still have that foul smell it did?

i always found it irritated my skin :(

Yep!! There is "warm wax" which is applied thinly over your skin, then a strip is placed on top and pulled off which removes the hair!! This method is best for leg waxing!! More sensitive areas such as the bikini line and underarms are best to wax using "hot wax", its thicker than warm wax and its put onto the skin and it sort of hardens on your skin in one piece so a strip is not required! It's just pulled right off and takes the hairs with it!!! Some salons will use warm wax on bikini lines and underarms but personally i think hot wax is the way to wax these areas with much less pain and redness!!!

A 'Bikini Wax' is basically just when you have the edges taken off so that it's not visible at the edges of your underwear!!!
A 'Brazilian' is where everything is waxed except a narrow strip in the centre!
A 'Hollywood' is where everything is waxed off... bum and all!!!

Its far more popular in Europe. I asked a beatician abou this - I had thought porn was the motivating influence - and she said i was the growing Islamic populations which were making the practise more common.

Ok can someone, anyone explain to me why having the appearance of a prepubescent girl would be a)attractive and b) make you 'feel better'. I would have serious concerns about any fella that preferred that look.

I have had bikini done before and found that painful and just not worth it - financially, mentally or relationship-wise.

Was just about to ask a question along similar lines. Do most women get waxed then? Why? Who in hell is going to see it bar your OH?

I don't wax, I do trim to keep it neat and tidy (i'm not a gorilla with hairgrowth down to my knees so don't see the point of whipping it all off), and I prefer to look like an adult woman personally, rather than a pre-pubescent. For those who shave - can I ask, how can you find red shaving bumps and itchiness more attractive than regular, normal hair?

I dunno, this is just something that evades me, why women would want to strip off all the hair in the pubic region. I understand armpits and legs, after all they are on show at times, but surely your nethers would be on show only to your OH, or possibly gynae?
Do people expect men to do the same - wax all their hair off? Urrgh!

My DH would be appalled if I decided to go completely bare - apart from the ridiculous cost involved to get it professionally waxed, he cannot fathom how men find it attractive. The one and only time I have ever been completely bare is post-op after a necessary shave and I could not wait for the plastic-doll look to go and to have a normal looking growth of hair and get back to looking like an adult woman rather than feeling like a baldy 8 yr old.

Im not into the hollywood look myself, but neat and tidy is good. But I dont think a hollywood necessarily has any prepubescent/paedo overtones really. Some people like it because its neat, clean, nicer for certain types of sex.

There's also the Californian wax, which is more hair off than a bikini, but not quite so much as a Brazilian. Which leaves a bigger landing strip.

Thanks for that echosound was beginning to think it was just me. I'm sure it's a personal thing, like everything else in the world. I prefer the neat, tidy and trim look on men as well as women.

I don't know if most women get waxed but amongst my friends it is the norm to keep it trimmed down there!!
So what if its just me and my other half who would see it? surely thats reason enough to keep it trim?? Personally I feel a lot cleaner with a brazillian not only that but when your wearing tiny underwear the last thing you want is for hair to be showing!! And in the summer when your wearing swimwear you dont want hair peaking out!!!
I don't find a bikini wax painfull, I find getting my legs waxed is much worse!! It's down to personal choice, if you don't mind having a big bush then theres nothing wrong with that but some peope just don't like it!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,652 ✭✭✭✭fits

well it isnt just a choice between a 'big bush' and a brazilian is it? Some women are less hairy than others and the odd trim is quite enough to keep things neat and tidy.

I would imagine most people do keep it trim, as do I, I'm not talking about a rampant jungle look, as fits said for some women it's just a case of keeping things neat; it's just the complete waxing off of all the hair to the point of total baldness I don't get personally. Just can't get past the pre-pubescent look of it. Different stokes for different folks I guess.
And I have yet to find swimwear skimpy enough that would show hair, unless the person is unfortunate enough to have pubic hair growing down their thighs to their knees.

I think I'm with you on this one alright K-a-t-e, my personal preference is neat trim and tidy on both men and women too, I was just genuinely surprised to see how many women regularly get brazilians or hollywoods.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭FlutterinBantam

Why put yourselves through the pain??

Most men prefer a full bush, now I can understand a bikini wax,but a bald box with a clump of hair on top looks ridiculous IMHO.

    Total turn off.

Speaking as a guy and only my opinion I prefer well trimmed or brazilian. It's better for sex, especially oral for a start and looks better IMHO. Bush does nothing for me. It really doesn't. Pubes poking out either side of the knickers is waaaay too much. I would prefer a hollywood to bush and I'm not that pushed on the hollywood tbh. I just think that some attention to that area is good and I would imagine women would say similar of men.

I've noticed that European women are more likely to be waxed and pampered in that area than Irish(and no it's not another silly repeat of the "Foreign biiiiirds are betta" crap either). Just something I noticed over the years.

Well have to disagree, the bald look always makes me think of swiping my laser card on it.

    Its not natural.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Jules

As already said some women are unfortunate to have quiet a fair bit of pubic hair. And a lot of the time it can be very awkward to shave and a quick trip to the beauticians has the job done in half the time. I know of a place in town, can't remember the name of it, but basically all it does is bikini waxing. And they are very professional and quick, less time, less pain. And it so depends on the wax they use.

Personally i would have to agree with the trim and tidy.... for both sexes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Natural look does it for me, though I don't particularly care as long as it's not bald! And when I say natural I don't mean if you've excessively hairy (going onto thighs etc), to just leave it all over the shop. Generally, I mean natural, keep to it the area it's supposed to be, just not in those stupid designs, shapes and whatever people are obsessed with these days. Definitely seems to be the norm though.

Shaving is sooo unnattractive and looks vile!

Razor burn is horrible enough on your legs but should NOT appear in more intimate areas!

Waxing is too difficult, especial DIY waxing.

Is that veet stuff any good, or is it just for bikini line and nowhere a bit...closer?

I would disagree as I love the look of the whole area. The more I can see of a woman's vulva and the better I can see it is all good frankly. I could look at it all day TBH.

Yeh, I shave on at least a weekly basis and I don't get razor burn. I use a 'not too new' blade and conditioner. I never use shaving foam or gel becuse my skin always feels tight and itchy after it and I get a rash down there which is not attractive!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,044 ✭✭✭gcgirl

I am allergic to waxing so I only really get my eyebrows done. I usually just use immac or shave it all off when I make a mess of it.

Though it was strange myself when I first heard it but a friend swore by it. She also recommended moisturiser but I find that it just clogs up the razor!

surely you just use the moisturiser after teh shave, not during?!

do you use loads and loads of foam and shave with the hairs instead of against.

Dont know why Im giving advice - i get shaivng rashes too and sometimes after doing my legs its like hallowe en 2 down there. Im good at underarm though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 508 ✭✭✭SW81

Yes Cazzy I do...my under arms and legs are grand, it's just the bikini line that goes mental. Must try that conditioner advice though, see how that works.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,027 ✭✭✭cazzy

I use conditioner but not to shave it- just to condition it. and sometimes shampoo too. Im grand at the bikini - its legs that is my downfall. Blood bath.
