Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

ladies ladies ladies, i dunno what you are all on about! there are too many pages of women moaning about the pain here so maybe this point has been raised already (and im sorry if thats the case!)

im 21 and had never got a brazilian (or any wax at all) done because id heard all this about it bein agony.... well finally plucked up (no pun intended!!) the courage and booked an appointment in Brazilia and went for their brazilian.

all i can say is that i genuinly am such a wimp, no pain threshold at all, but it was grand! it was a tiny bit sore here and there but it was more discomfort than actual pain! and to be honest 99% of everything was takin away!!

giving you all the benefit of the doubt, i know brazilia use a special type of wax designed not to hurt, so maybe i shouldnt moan until i try out the normal wax, but to be honest ive no plans to do that when i can use the non-pain wax in brazilia !! lol you should all just go there :P

Im glad you had such a painless experience however there are no specialist places like brazilia or urban wax down the west here so we have to suffer! and to add insult to injury the place where i used to get it done has now closed down (the recession bites again) so i have to go dig through "specialist waxing in connaught" thread again to sift through for other recommendations!
However if on one of my rare trips to the big smoke i decided to go to brazilia or urban wax, how far in advance would i need to be making an appointment and how much are they charging!? oh and do they do a student discount!?

I don't normally venture into this area but I know the folks at CityWax cause my office is very close to where they are. They are good people involved with it. I found their website via google but don't know if I'm allowed to link to it so I better not. Judging from the waxing demand it looks like they do well!

i use the one in sandyford and to be honest it doesnt seem busy to me so i wouldnt say you need to much advance notice. the one in city centre is prob busy enough though but i still dont think they are booked out far in advance. unfortunately no student discount, as i checked that out myself :(
full brazilian is 52 euro, if you google brazilia you will find their fab website that gives all their prices

If you wanna go to Brazilia, you need to book WELL in advance, like a few weeks - especially if you want a Saturday booking.

Oh and Sandyford is beside Dundrum!

I go to Brazilia in Sandyford and have Jenny do my waxing. She's really good. I get the Brazilian done and it's absolutely minimal pain. There's a tv you can watch in the room while it's being done and she chats away to you as well. I was scared before I went the first time, but it's definitely not sore. Supposedly they use a special type of wax.

For the embarrassment - I've had spray tans, smear tests, etc where you need to show some of yor bits, so I was used to it. You just have to be mature about it, they're not interested in looking at your bits!

ahhhh...... so this is the key to painless waxing huh? would seem there are two salons, both in knocknacarra! a fair bit out but a hell of a lot closer than Dublin! :pac:

    Yep!
Not as often as should though - so one extreme or the other!
Like the way it looks and feels! Not painful anymore - but the first time - oh-ow!

    Hi there all,

I'm guessing most posters to this thread are women but you may be able to help me. I'm male and looking to get a waxing done. I know I know is sounds ewwww, but I want to try it. Don't know how to go about it does anyone know where we men can go for such a service? :o

Oh I have a comment on being smooth down there. As a man I love it, it's the best ever. Makes me want to give this area more attention.

On another note It has nothing to do with prepubescent children. I can't believe any right thinking person would consider a man a paedophile, or even think he has this tendency, because of his preference for hairless nether regions. It beggars belief!

    Thanks in advance guys

    Hi Casper

That comment is appreciated, I know a lot of guys are weird about it for some reason. I think it looks much better and sexier.

Anyways if you go to www.lycon.ie and click on salons you will see all of the salons in the country that use this product when waxing. Its fairly pain free. Its definitely the best way to go.

When you get the wax done, pls post a pic on here, that would be appreciated by all in LL. Many thanks in advance ;)

Nope - way too much hassle. I get waxed though and trim it myself. It's still very tidy and minimalist.

Me too. I'm going away with my boyfriend for the August bank holiday and would like to get it done for this trip. To make sure all the red chicken skin look is gone for our trip how far in advance should I get it done, a week?

So you ladies who are more experienced at this than I, would you chose Urban Wax or Brazilia? As this would be the first time I opt for this particular treatment I want to make sure I go to the best place.

My skin is usually back to normal within a day or two.

That is nice and fast. I've decided to take the plunge and have emailed urban wax with an appointment request. Just hope they can take me on the 25th. I've decided to go for it a week early, that way if it hurts like hell hopefully I'll have recovered by the following weekend:D Scared now.

    I'm scared!!

It's not nearly as bad as, say, going to the dentist to get cavities filled (no lie, I'd go get waxed rather than go to the dentist any day of the week)!

A few days before your hols should be ample.

Definitely go to Brazilia but book your appoint at least a week in advance as they are very busy in there. I went to Urban Wax once and didn't find the service good at all. The girl wasn't a bit nice or chatty and the tweezers came out a few too many times for me....can you imagine ???

    Ouccchh....not nice

The dentist gives a great injection that means you feel nothing. Will my waxer supply the same level of anesthesia?:D
When Urban Wax call me back I'll ask them about the No Scream Cream and if it is worth it, may also opt for two Nurofen Plus. :o Now that I've decided on doing it I hope to hell that I get the 25th.

    Nah . . . but there's no drilling involved either! ;)

Don't have any experience with the No Scream cream, but definitely take a couple of tablets if you're a bit nervous; not only does it help dull the pain, but I think it's also supposed to help if there's any inflammation in the area. (Just don't take aspirin!)

  • Registered Users Posts: 287 ✭✭littlemissteach

what happens if you take aspirin???

  • Registered Users Posts: 107 ✭✭karma403

I've been getting them done for a while with lycon wax and each time i'm getting more and more ingrown hairs. I'm really fed up with it so I think I'm giving up on waxing for a while..

what happens if you take aspirin???

I'd be interested to know the answer to this also.

Aspirin (the wonder drug :D). Antipyretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antithrombotic. Hard on the tummy though as it's a nonselective cox inhibitor.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,410 ✭✭✭kizzyr

Appointment confirmed for 25th. Terrified now:o

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭SeekUp

what happens if you take aspirin???

Apparently, it's not recommended it because it's a blood-thinner (and an anti-coagulant), so it could cause bruising.

It wouldn't be fatal or anything, I think it's just a precaution that if you have some other over-the-counter medication, you might want to take that instead.

    Well, I got it done!!
    And it was grand!

I actually couldn't believe it - I'm not saying it was painless, of course there was a bit of an "ouh", particulary on a couple of the more sensitive pulls but overall it wasn't that sore at all!
Was done in a jiffy too. Oh and the embarrassment factor wasnt there at all either - although I generally don't get embarrassed easily anyway.

Got it done in Brazilia in town by Caroline, and took a nurofen beforehand in case anyones curious.

Right ladies I shave down there and try and get as much as I can off. Too chicken to get a wax - just a couple of questions:

    1. When shaving/waxing do you do inside the lips where there's hair?
    2. How can I get rid of the red spots that appear after shaving?
    3. Any other suggestions/advice about routine for doing this?!

    Thanks!

Waxperts in Dun Laoghaire have some male clients, the woman there was telling me that lots of them get recommended the place by their girlfriends/wives.

I epilate the lot off. I find it less painful than waxing. I don't do it religiously though, just for the novelty now and again.
