The chance of a CO2-related system of VRT or road tax coming in for bikes is practically zero, I'd say.

Remember, the authorities know nothing about bikes and we're an afterthought at best. That's why VRT is just a straight CC tax at present, with a sliding scale for secondhand imports. They just can't be bothered to figure out how to value bikes in the same way the car VRT system works. Don't complain, we get a far better deal on secondhand imports than car drivers do...

I think CO2-linked VRT and road tax are a load of old b*ll*cks anyway. All for show. No vehicle produces its official consumption figures in the real world, make the polluter pay if you want to but a ten litre car sitting in the driveway produces nothing. VRT and road tax should be abolished and all put on the fuel instead, then the people doing huge distances in thirsty vehicles will be the ones paying the most. However this would be political suicide as far as rural voters are concerned, so it'll never happen...

Link to new road tax rates

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

No real changes so, good stuff.
You're right of course emissions based tax would hurt bikes badly, most of the biggest bikes don't see everyday use.
