Continuing the trend of J1 in.... threads, does anybody have any tips or advice for a J1 in California. We are flying into LAX and intend to stay in the Huntington Beach area.

Good websites to find houses, jobs are something im trying to find at the moment but anything ye can tell me about the area where to go what to do etc. would be great.

Finally im in 4th year in college and I have to have proof of a job or postgrad for the U.S. embassy to give me a J1. What I want to know is does the job have to be related to my college course or will any job offer do. Because at the moment the only job id be able to get a letter for is the job I have at the moment in a shop. Will I just have to apply for a postgrad?

    craigslist.org

Have housing arranged before you go. You're unlikely to have a job arranged in my experience.

If youre 4th year youre probably 21 I presume? Thats a very good thing, Southern California in my experience is one of the strictest places in the states on ID for bars. And the police there really really hate the Irish.

Huntington is a bit quieter than San Diego but also a bit less anti Irish / hard to get accomodation in, from what I've heard. Meant to be great fun all the same.

Ya we'll all be 21, I had no intention of going over there before then. The last thing I need is to have to do the whole 17 year old thing again!! I want to be able to go out without worrying about where im goin too much!

Im hoping we're not talking very anti-irish here are we!! The reason we chose there is because its kind of central LA/Hollywood ~1 hour, San Diego ~1 Hour, Las Vegas ~2/3 Hours or am I wrong? And of coarse the added bonus of being near the beach, Knotts and Disneyland (possible jobs there?)
