Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've heard a lot of people saying that it's not safe to park your car at Liffey Valley car park but I have never experienced a problem and don't actually know anyone who has had a problem there themselves.

I've parked there when the place has been packed on a Saturday and in the run up to Christmas, in the early morning and for the last show at the cinema at night when the place is empty but not once has my car been vandalised or broken into.*

Does any one have first hand experience of having their car broken into/vandalised or know someone directly who has suffered the same?

I'm not talking about you hearing from a colleague that his brothers' friends, sisters husband works with a guy who has a cousin that had a car broken into in Liffey Valley car park, I'm talking about you or someone you know directly having had a problem. :)

So is Liffey Valley car park really any worse than anywhere else or is it actually not so bad and some people are just unfortunate?

*I realise some may say, this is because my car might not be worth breaking into, however I have had the stereo nicked from it but that was outside my parents house in Lucan, so someone considered it worth breaking into :(

Has your car or that of someone you know been damaged/broken into at Liffey Valley 50 votes

Yes, mine or someone I know directly

The most I've seen in terms of vandalisation of people vehicles there is the car park "security" putting stickers on peoples windows when they park on the pavements.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of that, especially in the run up to Christmas :)

Other than that I hear stories about vandalism but haven't been the victim of it (thankfully) OR know anyone who has suffered it directly either. It's always a "friend of a friend" or "happened to my mates brothers girlfriend".

EDIT: Oh and if Dub13 could fix the title of the thread I'd be grateful...not many shooping centres around but lots of shopping centres. ...shoop de shoop...:D

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I've parked at Liffey Valley very regularly (at least once a week) since it opened and I have never seen or heard of anything untoward in the carpark. I've seen security men arrest someone for theft coming out of M&S once

Now, I only go to Blanchardstown shopping centre a handful of times a year and I have personally witnessed 2 daylight robberies (hand bag snatched - scrote jumps into car and fellow scrote drives off at speed) in the car park

I've seen a number of cars with side windows smashed etc, so it does happen apparantly there is one car park that cars always get broken into think its the M&S one. Key to this one is never leave valuables bags etc on the seats, or ur asking for trouble

I bought a new (2nd hand) car in November. I've parked there for 3 years before never a hint of trouble. 2nd day I parked up there in new car my driver window was done.

That particular end especially around the blind side from the door securities view is bad. Again the same for the M&S end, people parking their cars their and getting the bus to work are vunerable as well as the people who park close to the M&S delivery area.

Parked there many times and nothing has ever happened to my car, though I would be weary parking too far from the centre itself.

A mate had a few windows smashed a few years ago, yet now every time I'm there I always see the security making their rounds.

I've been there many times over the years and not a problem. Though my mam's car has been damaged by other ppl parked beside opening their car door and hitting her car, it's obvious from the location this is what causes it. She's been bit by trolleys too same thing when she's not there.

But hey this can happen absolutely anywhere. Liffey Valley is the only shopping centre i always see secruity guards patrolling.

Happened to my brother whos van was broken into outside Next/M&S. This seems to be the worst area for car crime. Maybe thats why there are always spaces available.

yes it does get bad around christmas!
work up there and every night i have to check under the tyres as i had to get the tyres revulcanised 3 times due to discovering a screw found in the tyre.
and one saturday night someone robbed my hubcaps
    (I had a volkswagen polo)
i tought it was a joke coz who robs hubcaps?!!
this was all in the space of 5 months.

some people have no social life when they spend saturday nights robbin hubcaps!

oh btw i work in m&s and i park near the delivery entrance!
the trick is to not park too far away and not too far from under a light, but never under a light!

friend of mine had his aul escort broken into up there. Heard of quite a few incidents there actually, and it's used as a racetrack at night. IMO it's a sh1thole.... (I lived in Quarryvale for a good chunk of my life so don't mean to offend anybody from there)

i've had a mate have his car robbed from there about 3 years ago. another scam i heard before was a van going around with 'motorcycle recovery' on the side and they were lifting motorbikes from outside the shopping centre. no-one batted an eye-lid as they just assumed it was recovering a broken down bike.

Have heard plenty of tales alright, but we've no first hand experiences in the family. Plenty of friends windows went smashy-smashy up there, basically leave nothing on display. I live in Palmerstown, so I only have to walk up anyway.....but if/when I go to the trouble of learning to drive, I'd be weary of where I park up there.

    Shocked at that.

I park there often enough and have never had any problem whatsoever. Also of all the cars we've had recently some would be what you would think of the joyriders dream yet they've been left untouched. On the Blanchardstown side of things there is a gang that goes around at Christmas alirght robbing people shopping from cars and the like.

Maybe the liffey valley thingis mainly the m&s so, I never park there and by the sounds of it I wont be parking there in teh near future!
