Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So I bought the region free game off play-asia and I just put in the disc there when the message "Update required, if you do not install the update the game won't play"

i'm thinking, WTF? I never connected my xbox 360 to the net yet, nor was I planning to.
Is this update required for all the Orange Box releases, or just the Ntsc-J region free version?

No mine's not region free and it did the same, I think it's patching so HL2 will run on the 360

    Ok, thanks.
Still annoyed. I really shouldn't have to mandatorially connect to the net just to play a game. If I was DLC, online play etc I wouldn't mind.
But having to update just to play a regular game isn't on IMO.
And I downloaded the Xbox backward compatibility patch on a DVD and into my 360 2 weeks ago, and it looks like that didn't do any good.

Best ting you can do is get one of your mates 360s that has live and update it on their console...

I doubt you were connected to the net for the update, most likely it just came off the disk.

seems really ODD to release a disk that needs a update

Well I'm off home now to try and set up a shared internet connection on my PC and hook up the 360 that way.
I need to do this as I'm on the 3G modem and that's not xbox compatible.

Yes it is very odd that I need an update just to play the game and I'm not happy.
If I can't set it up via shared connection I'm gonna have to lug it over to my sister's house.

That was very very strange. I managed to set up a shared internet connection with my PC and connected the ethernet lead that came with the 360 to my laptop and Hey Presto! the patch got downloaded and everything reseted and the game now works!
Only problem is I can't connect to xbox live! the bloody thing says I failed some "IP test" or summat. How is it that I can get updates but can't get connected to Live?
    Anyone else have this problem?

Ps: good to see that man with the valve on his head is still Valve's logo!
