I'm on Eircom DSL this evening and I cannot access some web sites such as http://news.bbc.co.uk
    My default gateway is 159.134.155.27

I can ping the gateway no problem.
I can ping other sites such as boards.ie, rte.ie, foxnews.com, google.com, google.co.uk with no problem.
When I try ping news.bbc.co.uk I get the following results

Pinging newswww.bbc.net.uk [212.58.226.75] with 32 bytes of data:

    Destination host unreachable.
    Destination host unreachable.
    Destination host unreachable.
    Destination host unreachable.

    Ping statistics for 212.58.226.75:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

Other sites are also affected in the same way such as irish.typepad.com [204.9.177.195], www.apple.com [17.112.152.32] and others.

The sites are up and running because I can access them via a third party proxy.

This leads me to believe there is a problem with an IP router or routing table on Eircom's network. Are any other Eircom DSL users experiencing the same symptoms?

My gateway at the moment is 159.134.155.28.

Try using different DNS servers, such as OpenDNS, to see if the problem persists.

My IP address is coming up as 86.42.124.105.

Turn off your modem for a good minute or two and let it reconnect.

This will assign a new IP from the DHCP and then try again.

Thanks Ethernet. I've been using OPENDNS for a while now since its far more reliable that Eircom's own DNS. I have no problem's with name resolution.
Interestingly I can't ping 159.138.155.28 (Which I would have expected)

Good idea, in case there is some odd IP table cached on my DSL router (D-Link DSL-504). Didn't work unfortunately.
I can ping your IP address successfully though.

Give Eircoms own DNS a bash and see if it makes a difference...

Found the problem. I experienced a blackout in the area last night, which caused everything to reset, the IP filter was enabled which blocked these sites.
    Disabling this resolved the problem.
