Singapore opens bidding for national broadband network
    Published: Wednesday 12 December 2007 | 09:53 AM CET

Singapore regulator IDA has opened the bidding for a contract worth up to SGD 750 million to build the country's next-generation broadband network. Proposals for the new network need to provide broadband access for homes, businesses and institutions, with nationwide roll-out completed by 2015. The contract is for design, construction and operation of the passive network infrastructure, with the government providing up to SGD 750 million in financing. The request for proposals will close on 25 March 2008 and an announcement on the winner is expected in the third quarter of 2008. Bidders will be evaluated on four criteria: attractiveness of business plan, quality of network infrastructure, level of government grant and financial propositions and strength of the bidder. A separate tender will open in Q2 2008 to select an operating company to manage traffic flows on the network and provide wholesale access to retail service providers. Singapore's dominant operator Singtel issued a statement saying it will assess the proposals and consider ways to participate in the new network.

We'll be lucky if that 10 million is given to the company doing the scheme before 2015!

one with a dictator dont forget

Really? since when has a democracy been a dictatorship?

From wikipedia, that paragon of truth.

"It has been consistently rated by Transparency International as one of the most politically transparent and least corrupt governments in the world"

It is nice to see a government that works solely for the benefit of the people of that state.

Obviously it was a reference to Ireland, I mean why else would we build a network that passes all households...and spend so much money on it to obviously make sure it worked.
