    Hi,

Would anyone know if weight training would be benficial as part of traithlon training and if so would anybody know a website or something that would show what type and how often of training in this area I should be doing.

    Cheers

Weights are good for triathlon training but only at appropriate times. Without know your training schedule and year long plans I don't think anyone can say when you should be doing them.

    Hi Tunney

I plan on taking part in 3 or 4 sprint triathlons and 2 Olympic triathlons next Summer. At the moment I am doing endurance training on the turbo trainer 3 days a week i.e for about 1hr 15mins per session, and outdoor running two or days a week (one speed session, and a tempo run at the weekend). I haven't been able to get to the pool much but plan on going 2 or 3 days a week after christmas to work on my technique. I just wanted to know if I should add weight training to this.

There is a tendency in triathlon in Ireland to think that the sport is all about the bike. Its not. That being said a 1:15 bike is not going to do much for bike endurance. Have a look at doing two shorter more focused turbos and a longer bike (2+ hours) at the weekend.

Ditch the speed session, its too early in the year. I know alot of people do them but they won't be running or racing well in the Summer. Replace it with an easy run. Keep the tempo run. Instead of the 1:15 turbo you ditched do an 1:15 run.

If you aren't swimming at the moment I wouldn't add weight training. Add swimming first and then weight training.

Disclaimer: I'm not a coach, but I have made most of the mistakes before.
