Is it possible to get a decent movie camera (that doesn't cost the earth) for your bike that will work at night and day to record your journey?

You get helmet cams like this one...

don't know how good they are though... Its gonna give mobile phone recording quality i guess...

There's a bit of discussion on it here:

A helmet-mounted camera will definitely be more stable than one mounted on the bike though.

Is this something you'd want to do more than once? You could always mount a digital camera on your handlebars to record the occasional video.

A helmet cam is better than a static one since it'll record what you are looking at, not what's in front of the bike.

I got an actioncam 520 from Chainreaction.com this year for a trip to France. The quality is great and easy to configure as long as your camcorder can support it. Only downside is you need to carry all the kit on you. Can't fault it. I've used it on stuck to the helmet with a velcro patch and on the handlebar with a mount. I got the mount direct from Actioncam in the UK online.

A video I did of me descending Alpe d'Huez earlier this year using the actioncam is up on Youtube. The quality is DVD quality, but Youtube brings it down a bit. I had the camvorder in the back pocket. But I'm going to get a larger saddle bag to fit it for next time...
