i don't know how anyone can label the pumpkins album as disappointing, did people have that much expectation on it? when i saw corgan recruiting new members that act/look in the same vain as the original members i stopped having hopes for the album.

that being said "United States" is a belter of a track.

    Who?

I presume you're taking the piss.

Robert Plant - lead singer of Led Zeppelin.
Alison Krauss - country/folk singer, possibly one of the most popular in the States, if not the world.

One of my favs of the year is Kanye West Graduation. Really liked this. Another one I liked was Mark Ronson Version.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,739 ✭✭✭Jello

My favourite album of the year would have to be:

    Justice - †

Really got me into electro/house music and their gig was one of the best I've been to in a while.

Okay, as far as I'm concerned 2007 was a pretty crap one for music, some good albums came out, but they were few and far between. There was the odd diamond in the rough in many albums, but one song doesn't make an album. Here is my list of personal list of the good, bad and disappointing records of 2007:

    Good

Queens Of The Stone Age - Era Vulgaris - Hypnotic weirdness
Eddie Vedder - Into The Wild OST - Short inventive brilliance
Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light - Great hooks, with good pop sensibilities

    Bad

Velvet Revolver - Libertad - Sounds like Bon Jovi Applying For Credibility
Chris Cornell - Carry On - Yeah This Is What Happens When you Don't Restrain Yourself A Little

    Disappointing

Foo Fighters - ESP&G - Tired LP No. 3 (In A Row) from Bland Shouty Young Homer Simpson & Co.
Smashing Pumpkins - Zeitgeist - Not Crap, just really tiresome at times
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible - Okay I'm prob gonna come under charges of heresy for this one...look i loved Funeral, this wasn't as innovative, some really standout tracks, but as a whole a little underwhelming.

    Please submit your choices :)

P.S. I have yet to listen fully to, The Boss, Radiohead, Rihanna, Michael Buble, The Killers etc. When I've listened to them I'll submit my thoughts on them.

    Good

    Bruce Springsteen - Magic
    Radiohead - In Rainbows

    Bad
Interpol - Oou Love To Admire

    Disappointing
Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad
Crwoded House - Time On Earth

I didn't listen to much 07 albums, but the best i've heard are probably:
    Feist - The Reminder
    Efterklang - Parades
    Manu Katche - Playground

    Oh yah, and:
Amon Tobin - Foley Room  masterpiece

Haven't listened to Beirut's much. Was great live though.

    Favourites (in no particular order):
*The National - Boxer (a wonderful follow up from last year's stupendous Alligator)
*Beirut – The Flying Club Cup (Cherbourg being a personal fav. from the album, an acquires taste perhaps, I'm just grateful to have acquired it)
*Radiohead – In Rainbows (I don't understand how so many people here can list this as anything but an immaculate album)
*PJ Harvey - White Chalk (actually, this was probably my favourite album of the year)
*UNKLE - War Stories (I like UNKLE, who knew?!)
*Mice Parade - Mice Parade (a little gem of electronic/indie)
*Marissa Nadler -Songs III - Bird On the Water (just terribly pretty)
*Husky Rescue - Ghost Is Not Real (summertime made audible by these Danish dudes)
*El -P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead (featuring some wonderful little cameos)
*Sigur Rós - Hvarf/Heim (another spectacularly beautiful offering from these icelandic beaus)

    Biggest Disappointment of the Year:
Interpol's third album...I adored these boys after Bright Lights and though Antics held some gems I held such expectations for Our Love and was bitterly, bitterly disappointed.

I can't really comment on "bad" albums...I don't make a habit of listening much to that which I anticipate to be bad, and that which I hope to be good but which fails to live up to my expectations would qualify as disappointing, no?

This year wasn't as important to my musical development as others have been...I'm not sure if the music is at fault, or if I've just not been as proactive in discovering music as I usually am. Regardless, the new year looks very promising indeed with offerings from the delectable Cat Power, and returns from the utterly sublime Portishead, My Bloody Valentine, and Massive Attack, no less.

Got extremely few trips off the shelf for me, compared to any of his previous offerings... comes nowhere near the likes of Supernatural or Out From Out Where. Seen a few people praising it elsewhere though, so must give it another few spins.

    liars - liars

Do. It's really something that you need to listen to for a while - and decipher the found sounds! It's quite an accomplishment imo. (Although maybe permutation is stilll my fave, haven't listened to supermodified that much)

    Good
On the Irish scene, I though these albums were pretty good:

Tales of Silversleeve - Cathy Davey
    Unexpected Falls - Dry County
Contents of a Shipwreck - The Pale
    Weightless - Juno Falls
    The Monkey Pole - Hybrasil
Gavin Glass & The Holy Shakers - Gavin Glass & The Holy Shakers
In Love With Detail - Delorentos
    Louder & Clearer - Stanley Super 800
    Tribes - Luka Bloom
    Mutter - Maria Doyle Kennedy
    Flight Cases - Headgear

Outside of Ireland, I thought the following were deadly:
    Boxer - The National
Sound of Silver - LCD Soundsystem
King of Cards - Tom McRae
Raising Sand - Robert Plant & Alison Krausse
    In Rainbows - Radiohead
Fur & Gold - Bat For Lashes

    Bad
Our Love to Admire - Interpol
Myths of the Near Future - The Klaxons

    Ugly
    That Leona Lewis song

My two (euro) cents anyway ....
