Im looking to build a new computer system and im debating going all out and spending big money on a "super" machine or just going for a high end machine

    The Specs are below:

    "Super" Machine
    2xQuad Core Xeon 2.66Ghz
    4GB DDR2 800
    2xnVidia 8800GTX 768MB
Price: £3300 the system will be watercooled and have two 22" lcd panels but listed above are what would be the main difference between the machine

    High End Machine
    Quad Core 3.0Ghz
    nVidia 8800GTX
    2GB DDR2 800
Price £1900 this system will be air cooled and have a single 24" LCD panel

The problem im facing is that the difference in price is because of the extra cpu, gpu and the watercooling kit.

Which is the system that people would advise me to go for

Id go for the high end one depending on what your going use the pc for?

Avoid the "super" machine. Depends on what your using it for though, like dazftw says...

It sounds amazing on paper, but you will buy it, build it, then probably get "the buyer's remorse"

The second machine you listed will perform just as well in nearly anything, unless you are one of the compulsive benchmarkers who invests thousands to get a bigger 3dmark score than everyone else.

Buy the high end, overclock and improve over time. Much more fun IMHO.

Urge to say wait a month for the new cards and mobo's out in January then decide. 4Gb is a waste unless your using 64bit OS as 32bit OS only can detect 3.5Gb. If you want it urgently buy now but if not wait save money and you ll end up getting better one aswell

I think for a start you should perhaps revise the high end spec.
Unless you are using Extremely intensive CAD or 3DS MAX /MAYA, you will never need 2x Xeons.
There are many processors that are looking for a serious amount of wad that provide no more benefit in general usage than an overclocked E2140

the new 8800gts 512mb would be more viable than an 8800gtx.
