Backup option missing

    Hi guys ive bought an external hard drive to backup my pc.
    but when i go to back up the pc the option for backup is missing im running vista32 bit.

    i Click start then
    Control panel then
    System and Maintenance then
    Backup and Restore Center

    when i do this there is an option to backup files but nothing to click on what is the problem?

    ive gone into the accessories, system tools, backup status and configuration

    when im in there only one option is available
    (set up automatic file backup)

    when thats clicked i get
    The backup application could not start due to an internal error
    invalid access to memory location (0x800703e6)
    please check your system configuration and try again.
