    It is very unfair.
If these guys all went round in diesel vans the guards would still give them a hard time.
I drive a powerful sports car with a big spoiler on the back, but im nearly 40 and the car is a 911, they never seem to stop me.

I think the bottom line is - with a bald tyre(s) you could easily lose control of the vehicle, espcially in the wet, loss of traction... crash into something or someone etc...

Bald tyres contribute to a dangerously defective vehicle, I think the guards were perfectly entitled to take the car.

    Clarifying my piont.
Non factory exausts are noise polution.
If you drive a car/truck with factory standard exaust systems, i have no issue with you.
Idiots with modified systems should pay up for their lack of concern for their fellow motorists and home owners.
As to how to combat the 364 Vs 365 syndome the tax disk can provide the garda with the info.
If you want to annoy the general public and modify your little exaust/D**K
    pay up !!

They actually took it so they could bring it back to the station and give the rest of the lads a good laugh. Cops love stupid cars. They're probably doing donuts in the car park right now.

you are actually a muppet tbh:rolleyes:
    (1) whats with your penis envy
    (2) if sombody wants a loud car thats their choice, i dont like your attitude, maybe the NY state should tax you for being a muppet??.
(3)whats the difference between a factory exhaust and a aftermarket exhaust??? is a screaming stock v12 a different type of loud than a silvia with a straight through??

P.S ive a 1380 mini, freeflow exhaust manifold, into a stright through box, louder than hell, sets off car alarms, shakes the windows in my house.
annoying people like you is a extra bonus,
I like my loud exhaust because, i drive my car because its fun and i enjoy it, i take it out when i feel like it, not just a-b driving, i think the best sound is the poping fromthe exhaust as it runs down the rev range in 3rd.:D:D:D
i wish you were my neighbour:cool:

People on here need to get up off their high horses, the lack of car knowledge on here is a bloody joke. Sometimes I wonder are people into their cars here at all when I hear this guff.

    Just to clarify:

    1. @price of a pint, most aftermarket exhausts on turbo cars do not add any noise to the car. I have an aftermarket hks exhaust on my gtr skyline and have no issues with my dick size thank you very much.

    2. @littlejukka, negative camber or the tracking on a car being out does not make it unsafe to drive or dangerous on the road like some idiots on here have pointed out. Most lads I know who are not into cars drive around with 4 bald tyres never mind one. I spent 2 weeks driving to the ring last summer, I added about 1.5mm -cam to my rear wheels for a day on the track to see the impact on the handling and went through a set of tyres, good tyres means fast wear not a bad defect especially when the tyre is on any sort of edge.

    3. @eamon234, A nissan silvia is not a "boy racers" or stupid car, its a top end jap performance coupe from the 90's with one of the best 4 pot turbo engines ever made in my opinion. The touring model in the uk came with full factory leather and an extras list that would put an audi tt to shame, and hand it its ass on a track too.

Now to the topic at hand, go down to the garda compound and pay the impound fee, get a mate with a flat bed and tow the thing out of there. They had every right to take your car but you have just as much a right to take it back once its not driven on the road. Take it home and park it up, wait for your tax and get a new set of tyres and that'll be the end of it. THey cant stop you taking the car away.

birdbrain, i drive a 1991 mini, the exhaust is gunna be smaller than yours, in this case who has the smaller knob.
who knew a walking, talking nob on boards:rolleyes:
please get a life or get laid or somthing.

and you seem to know sfa about cars(you dont drive a exhaust muppet), so please take your jealous, personality complex and go to another forum, where you maybe able to contribute somthing useful, maybe the bullsh!t forum....well make one just for you!!

do you know a free flow exhaust may make a car more efficient??

no, wasnt defective, it wasnt brand new either, its only going bald on one side so id say its the tracking, so they are allowed to take in your car? he said he is getting the psv to look at it.

The definitely are. It wasn't taxed, you couldn't prove ownership and one of the tyres made it unroadworthy.

They can use the "1 months grace" at their discretion - so if they take it, it's fair as you shouldn't have been driving it anyway.

you can't equate a trackday setup to normal driving. the tracking being off is not in itself a problem, but the resultant bald tyre is a problem when you're on a public road.

as for the lads you know with 4 bald tyres, most lads don't drive a car that will guarantee garda attention. if you bring that much attention to yourself you'd be a moron if you didn't make sure everything was in good nick, tax, insurance, NCT, tyres, lights, your attitude. no sympathy for the OP.

These cars are no more noisy than a HGV, but I dont see you having a go at truck drivers.
These kids have a hobby, they spend thousands on it, leave them at it.

When it effects others (noisy exhaust) its gone beyond a hobby and is a nuisance. I'm sure a few lads flyign up and down the road outside your house late at night would shift your attitude towards them a bit.Trucks are noisy because they need to be powerfull to pull very heavy loads. No way around that.

Plus not having it taxed and having a bald tyre is not part of any hobby I know.

    glad i rattled your cages.
maybe you should think about the issue i brought up.
noise pollution is an issue that will not go away.
    p.s.
all after market exausts i have encountered are louder.
    no apologizies !

Th op said the cxar was bald on an edge, his camber is clearly out because he has aftermarket suspension, he only owns the car a few weeks and its very possible that he didnt notice that the inside edge of his tyre was over worn. On performance tyres the wear can be severe over a short period as ive pointed out already. This does not make his car a danger on the road as some people in their overreaction have pointed out.

Sure the OP sihould have everything up to spec to save himself the hassle(like I do) but the point being made is that if this was a focus or a corolla he would have been sent on his way and thats plain wrong. Ive been driving my mothers newly bought mazda 6 for the last 2 months with no insurance disk on the road for over two months with not one word from a garda at the numerous checkpoints ive passed, i simply showed them my cert and they left me off. Would this be the case in my skyline? Why not, im still the same 27 year old with a degree and phd working in a high paid engineering job no matter what car im in.

Absolute rubbish. My aftermarket exhaust is quieter than my standard one. Turbo car exhausts are not noisey like their non turbo equivalents.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,366 ✭✭✭ninty9er

    glad i rattled your cages.
Didn't rattle my cage...I drive a corsa..not the quietest when I have to rev to get out of a side road, but not a complete nuisance...:D:D
    no apologizies !
Think I just found the measure of what we're up against:p

    sad but true.
some people dont understand suspension set up, and the wear on parts etc, its not dangerous, just a pain in the ass, get it sorted and te car will be sweet.

and hgvs nee big power to pull big loads.
some of these cars have big power, 300bhp in a car is serious power for a car.

i had the receipt with the date i purchased it, the car came with the exhaust, and price of pint, your some d*ck, nobody is looking for your stupid opinion on how cars should be and your rude remarks either, you should be banned. why is everyone getting so worked up about the exhaust?

  • Registered Users Posts: 754 ✭✭✭monster1

people who modify their exaust systems cause noise pollution.
Your D** k does not get any bigger !
Actually usually the bigger the Exaust the smaller the D**k( compesation issues)
If you want to annoy people with a little rice rocket, pay up A**h**e
    Stupid !
If I were Bertie Your car would be taxed to high heaven.

and how is a nissan silvia a rice rocket???? muppet!!!

you're missing the point, the garda will pick up on the low thread (under 1.8mm, i think). whether it's a ZR or a bog standard tyre the law still stand.

Has there ever been 3 people banned for personal abuse in the same thread on the Motors forum before :(

If that's the attitude the Gardaí got, expect to be pulled over a whole lot more in future!!

    Think thats bad??

    Listen to my story...

Outside my house had the car in towards the house, wanted to turn it around reverse it in for the morning to work..

Car has insurance, tax & nct.

While turning it around, the gardai stopped the me.. outside my house..

asked everything he could. THEN tells me I have no insurance. Proceeds to tell me he is taking the car to santry, I said ill get the papers etc..

Oh no no, have to show them at santry. I was going mentle.

Then some, copper around 20 or so, clearly with no driving sense. I told him to take it easy it isnt a ford mondeo.

The guy nearly put himself threw a wall.

When up too santry showed the documents, got the car back free of charge..

What car I here you ask..

    Mitsubshi - Lancer EVO 9

Its just typical.. Everything shown in the window..

Is it a noisy exhaust? If so what is that about? And I reckon if the op was noisy the cop was right. Also they can give a fine of 80 euro for noise but cannot take the car for noise.

The Garda are now looking at equipment to measure the noise level and when they can prove it is over the limit of ..I think it is 80 decibels ..they can prosecute. Sooner the better

This guy has only just bought his car and couldnt justifiably tax it until he recieved his cert of ownership, it was taken off him because it wasnt a run of the mill car and a terrilble but not uncommon attitude shown by the local gardai, not because of a partially bald tyre or no tax.

I would have thought my point was bloody obvious to be honest.
