Hi, I've been a member of the credit union for about 4 years now, but I haven't put any savings into my acount in about 8 months. Will that affect me applying for a loan now? Thanks

In general it does affect you, but just have a chat to your particular union and explain to them the situation. They will be a bit worried about you repaying the loan, seeing as you haven't put anything in the account is so long, so you might need to have a good excuse for that.
