Where to shop?

    Hey.

Today's my only free day between now and Xmas eve to get presents for my girlfriend of 6 years. So it needs to be right.

I'll cover the usual suspects- jewellery, pampering stuff, her favourite wine - but I'd also like to get something slightly different.

Is there a shop in south Dublin that specialises in presents for ladies? You know that technological, boys' toys shop in Dundrum (beside the laptop shop)? Well, I kind of mean a female equivalent of that. A shop that stocks things women like but that I would never think of unless I was in a shop surrounded by them.

    She's a 29yo professional and quite girly.

*As an aside, I recommend people ask their husbands / boyfriends to get them the book "Car Care For Girls" as a stocking filler. Has anyone seen it? It's great! It's electric pink, very clear, and has lots of tongue-in-cheek pictures of the motoring heroine pouting and flirting with her mechanic. If it sounds dumb, it isn't. I read it cover to cover and was able to diagnose that my own car's break discs need attention (I know zero about cars).

Does she have any interests? I like cooking so I'd love to get a cook book or some nice oils etc but I know other women would be insulted if their OH got them something like that. Other girls are into spa treatments and those kind of things but I wouldn't be all that interested in getting that kind of present. It really depends on what her interests are...

6 years? Why not an engagement ring?

The thing is you know her a hell of a lot better than we do so it's quite hard to say oh you should definately get her this or that!

I think all women like thoughtful gifts. How about a weekend away somewhere that has special memories for both of you. A scrapbook of photos, postcards etc. Get a nice photo printed onto canvas. Does she like music? Urban Outfitters have cool record album frames that you could frame her favourite record in. See here I am saying stuff that I want!! Maybe something you could both do together - a course of dance classes?

Give us more info about her and her interests!!

lol that sounded a bit sarcastic but I am genuinely puzzled why u haven't asked her? And an engagement ring would be a perfect pressie! :)

Sorry, I didn't check in in a few days.

I'll get her a ring (one of these days). But she said she wants a really big one - E20K. After the smelling salts broght me round again, she revised it down to "maybe E10K", but either way I have some saving to do. So it won't be THIS Christmas, but possibly NEXT.

By the way, I wasn't really looking for regular ideas about what to get her - I was specifically looking for a shop that stocks unusual, possibly techie, girlie stuff.

I forget who abused me but, yeah, the presents I listed are slightly boring, but there are a lot of events - Xmas, Valentines, Anniversary, Birthday - in the calendar. I only have so much creativity. I didn't ask for the massive marketing industry to push me into a never-ending spiral of reciprocal gift giving.

Hate the game, not the player ;)

The guy posts looking for christmas present ideas and he ends up being hassled about getting engaged. Ridiculous

20k/10k for a ring is totally mad too.

Thanks for the support, guys. Eat that, *Murphy*!

The ring? Yeah, bit crazy alright. I showed her that film "Blood Diamonds" and all to try to poison her love of jewels but, if anything, all that talk of massive gems just fired her up even more.

For the record, ladies, diamonds are a waste of money. You would be better off setting fire to your cash.
