Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So many of these "Player of the Year" awards nowadays that I really don't pay that much attention any more.

It was pretty obvious, however Tiago should have won it.

This is probably the highest accolade a player can win.
In a poll of all national coaches and captains, Kaka polled 1,047 votes, Messi 504 and Ronaldo 426.

In my opinion, and from what I read the best midfielder in Europe since he left Chelsea, he has not played much though this year has he?

It's a very credible award tbh

Can't really remember a year I disagreed with a choice. Plus I think the judges know much more than me and other fans of football.

    Oh, obviously.

Anyone who has watched Serie A for the past year and a half regularly should be apalled. He saved his (admittadly brilliant) best for the champions League and was pants in so many league games. Reminded me of Zidane towards the end of his Juve career when he just didn't seem to care as much when playing a Piacenza or Perugia which probably cost us a league.

Totti was robbed. I always feel sorry for him when he's treated like a god in one cuty and constantly called overated and ****e everywhere else

It's only Man Utd fans who think he's Christ Ronaldo :D

Ronaldo utterly destroyed the premiership last season.
Kaka utterly destroyed the Champions League last season.
Neither of them were anywhere near as good in the other aspect.

Lets hope he breaks the current trend of Brazillians winning this title and subsequently putting on weight while turning in a string of hopeless performances.

I agree. I think messi was the more consistant player and he has been awesome so far this season.

The thing is Kaka won the champions league, and was the main contributer to Milan winning it.

That, along with the world club championship, is what they look at when giving out these awards.

indeed - Ronaldo got World Player of the year in 2002 despite only playing about 15 games (7 for the World Cup winning Brazillian side)
    Ballack was robbed that year!

Pretty sure the voting took place comfortably before last Sunday...

Did anyone watch the ceremony. CR was on the verge of tears when he realised he came third. Pele was consoling him in the background up on stage.

The voting must have been months ago. Stan voted for 1. Messi 2. Gerrard 3. Klose. Robbie Keane went with Messi, Kaka and Pirlo.

John Terry voted 1. Drogba 2. Messi 3. Cech.

i'd have given messi the award purely for what he did to getafe last season
