It was a quiet news day in Galway so Frank decided to 'provide 'some

    Galway Independent - Wednesday 4th January 2006

The Limerick to Galway commuter line is on track for commencing operations before 2007
According to Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform Frank Fahy, the recent announcement that Iarnród Éireann is to proceed with the development of the commuter line, is a very welcome initiative.
"The decision taken by Iarnród Éireann to proceed with a Galway commuter rail link, and the news that Galway and Limerick should be connected by a commuter rail link by the end of 2007 , are most welcome."
"This new commuter link, together with the introduction of new trains on the existing Galway to Dublin route during 2007 and the planned commencement of hourly departures on this route to the capital, will mean a very comprehensive commuter service for the city, particularly between Athenry, Oranmore and Galway," he said.

We do not have hourly trains to Dublin , being kind we have 2 hourly trains to Dublin which is an improvement, and we do not have a train service to Limerick . Thanks for nothing Frank :(

Nor have we an apology from Frank for lying to us in 2006...but hey thats Frank. In fact we have this recent statement from dempsey instead to th e effect that there will possibly be a service in 2009 .

Frank is now in charge of supervising Transport policy on behalf of the electorate, he is chairman of the oireachtas committee on transport since the last election.

He should stick to hairdressing :p

The OP seems genuinely shocked that a politician, in this day and age, would make up porkies coming up to an election! Oh my God!!!!!!!

Whats the world coming to, eh?

There are so many bad politicians, but we should blame the muppets who vote for them as well; this is a democracy, after all. Unfortunately, more people vote for narrow self-interest than for the good of society at large - e.g. they would rather have SSIA handouts, tax cuts etc than investment in hospitals, schools, public transport, renewable energy… After the so-called economic miracle of recent years, we have more economic inequality than most countries in Europe. And quite a few people will tell you what a great guy Charlie Haughey was as well.

Most shocking recently was when a county councillor was caught stealing from public funds and sent to gaol, a majority of his colleagues voted to allow him to pretend that he had been off sick during that time so that he could come back and take his seat - and then applauded his return. These people have no shame. Try asking your local candidate for their views on political corruption next time the elections come round, but don't hold your breath waiting for an honest answer.

    See, he covered all eventualities.
