My handbag is really empty at the moment (just changed over from the green Monsoon monstrosity I had been using for the past few weeks - big enough to fit my laptop and everything else, it's no wonder my back is in bits) so here goes. BTW, I'm not in the least bit a girly girl, so I don't know what this says about me!

    Cuticura anti-bac hand gel
    12 Neurofen Plus
    Illuminated Sudoku game
    House and car keys
    Nail file
"Golf ball" dimante ring (I was wondering where that had gone to)
Britney Spears duo lipgloss-perfume roll on thingy
    Sure Biorhythm
Sulá Natura Vanilla Mint and Strawberries and Cream
    First Aidex
    Burberry Brit
    Extra Fusion (the orange-y one)
    Two phones
Blue, purple, black and turquoise pens
    The Hand of Ethelberta
    Persuasion
Being Elizabeth Bennet and the required notebook
An old account book of mine from the 80s that my dad found recently
    Eggsnog lipbalm (love Lush!)
    Neutrogena SPF 20 lipbalm
    Boots Expert Soothing lip protector
Greenland Cocoa-Vanilla lip balm (seriously yummy, if you like chocolate it's great for taking the edge off a craving)
Wallet - that's a whole universe of its own!
    One nude hold-up (?)
An empty packet of Milky Way Stars (Aww!)
    Four toothpicks
    A comb
    Tissues
Needle and thread (served me well the time my trousers got ripped at work, a staple ever since)
Bus timetable for Limerick to Waterford (?)
    Lens spray
    Ancient Philips MP3 player
    Headphones for phone
Nokia USB cable (I have NO idea why that'd be in my bag!)
    Umbrella
    Two pairs of felt/fleece gloves
    Marshmallow Electro Juicy Tube

No, no, sorry, it's not an actual hand, it's a Thomas Hardy novel. I was reading it and Persuasion before Christmas, but then I got Being Elizabeth Bennet and I've been reading it repeatedly since (it's a bit like the game books we used to play with when we were kids, but Austen-y, and you don't need dice).

If only history had put men with the bags. All we have is our pockets and it's as simple as: Phone, keys, wallet.

I got a new handbag for Christmas which I've been taking care of as it's my first semi-designer handbag ever, so all that's in it is my little makeup bag, ipod, headphones, wallet, chewing gum, lip balm, and keys.

If it were one of my old bags it would be filled halfway with receipts, change, wrappers, scribbled on bits of paper, and everything would be covered in shiny sticky crap from the tubes of lip gloss that seem to explode everywhere :(

After a night out at a function/party my bag has: 2 empty plastic shot glasses, one full of jelly, one can of cider (????), my purse, crumpled 20 euro notes and lots of coins lying around, a lot of colourful confetti, lipgloss, make up bag, perfume and tissues.

I have two bags in use.

    1: Dog walk bag

    Plastic pick-up-****e bags
    Dettol wipes for hands
    Leash
    Treats
    Ball
    Inhaler in plastic bag

    2: Regular use bag

Sub-bag with Palm and fold-out keyboard in one side, and Shuffle, earphones and turn-your-phone-into-a-radio lead in the other; one of the zippers has a Hello Kitty attached on a string.

Occasionally sub-bag with makeup, but mostly this stays at home

Wallet with bus cards, credit and debit cards, DVD shop card, library card, HSE card, picture of the loved, about €100 in notes and change, the euros in one half of the purse, the nickel in the other (coppers go home to a savings jar)

Sub-bag with papers currently in use - credit card bill to be paid, car insurance and driver's licence, passport with e-ticket for upcoming trip (must take that out), bank receipts from lodging money, pen and highlighter

    Inhaler, lipstick, comb
    Book currently being read
    Phone in back pocket

(This sounds like a lot, but oddly it all fits neatly into a smallish bag.)

Ok, so every time I get a new bag I have the best intentions to keep it all nice and clean and free of junk, but give me a week and it’s littered with chewing gum wrappers, cinema ticket stubs, empty lip glosses etc, not to mention makeup stains in the fabric.. I’d be mortified if anyone had to go through my bag to find something… Am I the only one who’s like this or is it a common thing? :o

I am the same way with my handbag. At the end of the week I try and clean out my bag but it seems like it is a weekly chore to do. I wish I could have a clean handbag everyday instead of only one day a week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭missmatty

No, happens me too. Bit embarassing but luckily as far as I know, no-one would be looking in my bag to see it !

I'm the same. I change bags regularly and only take out the essentials - phone, keys, wallet, pill, bronzer and brush, so all the other crap gets left behind - receipts, wrappers, small change, chewing gum etc. I'd hate for someone to go through my bag, there could be anything in there.
