Ehm... for a long time I said Mick Foley, cause he ended up being at the top of something he always loved and respected, but other than that hard to say. Other than the parents, raising two of us through some rotten hard times, as well as the bro having learning difficulities and epilepsy. Nothing worth doing is easy they say sure.

So far, the posts about "yore ma" are the most interesting (to me), because they give a solid reason why the poster's mother is heroic - and the one about Meave.

There's a writer's exercise where you take your hero and work out why he or she is heroic, and then apply the hero's characteristics to your protagonist.

If you were choosing qualities from your heroes, which qualities do you think make them heroic?

(The post denouncing Roy Keane is interesting: he's seen as a villain because of his treachery. I didn't know he was ever considered traitorous...? Nice villain quality, that.)

On a serious note (if this thread still is!) my hero is my nan. Died Dec 10th 2001, RIP i love you and if i could be 10% the person you were i'll be doing fine.

Otherwise, it is Aung San Suu Kyi.

Many of the real heros can't be named by the general public.

All the people working to try and free some of the 300,000 child soldiers around the world for example, or those trying to put the pieces back together after the genocide in Rwanda or the civil war in the Congo.

People delivering aid to war zones in Darfur.
yeah but what did they ever do for me.

Cecilia Ahern. How you can be so talentless and have films made of your tripe and be so popular is something to aspire to.
