    Well the cabinet will be meeting in the meantime and the politicians won't be completely idle for the next 6 weeks, as this and their other breaks are often portrayed, but the Dáil should sit for a lot longer than it does.

    It is not that many months ago that we had current and prospective TDs looking for seats in the Dáil. After all that, they had months away from their seats almost immediately and now another 6 weeks, and even when the Dáil is in session, they rarely sit on them anyway. Sure it is boring in there most of the time, but we gave them the right to those seats, so they should be sitting in them. No matter how boring a subject in the Dáil may be, it may be very relevant to someone that voted for that TD, and that TD is meant to be representing them.

    Every so often we hear of some piece of legislation or other that has been waiting to go through the Dáil for years, and still has not been got round to. With more sittings those things could be done. For all the talk of Dáil reform, they aren't going to change much if it means them being there more often. They should be there at least 4 if not 5 days a week when it is in session and the sittings should be tied into something like the primary school academic year. Of course that kind of reform is not going to happen, or anything close to that or even not that close to that. So it is going to continue in the form that Christmas is here, St. Patrick's Day and Easter are not far away, with the summer not long after that and before you know it, it'll be Christmas and the Dáil will be off for 6 weeks.

    It's fair to say they won't be entirely idle over the next few weeks, but why so much time off? Who decides that they deserve so much time off from Dail duties, it wouldn't be themselves by any chance?

    It's time for Bertie to take permanent holiday's. I am fed up with his ums ahhs and taking credit for the boom times and acting the bollix when someone asks him an akward question. Why did people vote him in again?

    What opposition going into an election hasn't said that? This is the thing, they can all swap scripts if there is a change of government. Whoever is in government or opposition always shouts the same things across the floor at each other. Something a government defends stoutly while in power, they'll attack with the same fervour when they move across, and using the exact same arguments that the then opposition screamed at them, and which they rebuked. It is always the same. Anything good that happens is because of the government that is in power and anything bad is the legacy of when the opposition was there. It is all so predictable. As they say... it doesn't matter who you vote for, the government always gets in!:)
