    Goals for 2008:

Stop Going to the Fitz buckled thinking I'm Billy Big Balls.
Stop believing that any losses are easily recouped by spinning the wheel of steal.
Actually just stop any casino games.
Never play online, instead do something more fun like sticking needles in ones eyes.
Stop calling 3-bets just because peolple piss me off by doing it.
Remember suited one gappers arent the nuts.
    Stop tilting. (not gona happen)

    LOL.

On No.2 is it: "Not to improve my cash game and not move up levels" or "Not to improve my cash game but move up levels anyway"? There's a big difference!

I'm a working stiff. You know it's the first one but the second (or the opposite in terms of my post) wouldn't be a disaster. I suggest everyone try reverse psychology with Mrs. Fate.

Really put in the effort to make the transition to cash online either 6 handed plo or nlh

    - Qualify for WSOP or go over and play 1/2 side events
    - Build the roll to comfortably play 3/6 - 5/10 PLO online
    - Become a decent 5 figure winner online
    - Win a €500+ buy in live tourney next year
    - Focus more on PLO than HE

    Non Poker Goals
    -Continue to work hard
-Cut down playing so much live poker during the week;)
-Get over to Vegas for a week for my 30th
-Bring me eldest lad over to see his first Liverpool match

    - Become a decent 6 figure winner online

dont play online - unless im going to cop myself on and play at levels im rolled for and to properly upload all the needed software PT PAHUD etc etc
im such a lazy fukr and need to sort this out!

game selection - ie play with the jokers, even if you hate the location etc

no drunk poker - you suck at it, end of story (mr re-raise)

give the IO another shot, but this time relistically think you can go deep

    non-poker

Dont let late poker sessions affect personal plans - ie get the finger out and push the few business ideas ya have

    2008 goals:

    Poker:
-Decide how much time I want to devote to online play - 10 hours a week? 8 hours?
-Devote more time to improving my online cash game, really focus on this if I am going to play
-Play at higher stakes than I've been doing, as the money doesn't mean enough to me to focus my mind
-Play at least one €500+ buyin live tournament
-Become somewhat competant at Omaha and the other main varieties of poker
-Play fewer badly structured live tournaments
-Rather than occasionally attempting to win entry to big events via the $10 sats to super sats route, identify the softest super sat and just buy in directly, saving time and effort

    Non Poker:
-Try to devote 1/100 of the time I spend on poker to researching and managing my investments. This will almost certainly make me more money over the course of the year than poker will at the stakes I play
-Excel at a job I love

I'm not going to put down 'play in the WSOP main event' or 'be in Vegas for the WSOP' although I would love both of those, if they happen they happen and I'm not going to make it a focus of my year.

Edited post Nic mistype, even i have no chance of that:D it should have read 5 figure, i would be very happy with a 40/50k profit in 08 for the amount of effort/time i would put into poker through a full year as it will always remain as a pastime for me.

i hope that u have this ambition for 2008

I actually burst out laughing when I read that one, no idea why I said it. Fortunately for you playing live is not on my list of things to care about in 2008.

Goals for year are to move up to 400nl and beat it obv.

To be able to play more then 30k hands per month every month.

To make over 10k a month (preferbly want to do this by end summer but w/e) I figure I do this by playing 30k hands a month and beat 400nl for 4 bb/100 and adding rakeback.

If I achieve above for few months to take money out of roll and start investing and such like. It likely will not be huge but it will be good start and good to generally diversify. This will likely hinder me on moving up more but I have no problem playing and hopefully beating 400nl for a few 100k hands if needs be.

To become much better at understanding hand equities and basically be able to know my equity versus a range of hands at any point in a hand.

I want to be better able to read the flow of a game, so knowing to up gears when I have been tight and vice versa. A lot of the higher stakes player talk about that and something I need to work on.

To continue to be the only person on boards to not play drunk, keep proper bankroll management and not go on super monkey tilt

Finally to have a very good understanding of what I want out of poker for the future, whether I see it as possibly a career for a while or just something fun to do on the side.

My aims aren't quite as grand as you guys but

    - Turn up to and beat local golf club monthly donament
    - Become a long term winning player at microlimits (then move up)
    - Play more online MTTs
    - Read HOH2 & 3
    - fix my temprement

Maintain my wr at 6+bb/100 at 200nl, play another 20k hands, and then, if i've beaten it for 5/6bbs over that sample tentatively move up to 400nl.

probably will play some donkaments as well, and build up a br for going to vegas in 2009.

also, i want to get around to getting another monitor, pretty sure i can 10table without any great dip in play.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭dvdfan

To fully understand 3betting ranges so i dont spew in 3bet pots anymore
To be playing and beating a level that i can comfortably make a living at
To concentrate more and use my logical taught processes during a game before making a decision
Not to play more than 6 tables ever again as it directly interferes with the above ambition
Take advantage and travel while playing poker
If i can start making money out of it
Continue to review sessions, work on discipline, theory and read and post more on 2+2

I would like to play as well as I used to before getting involved in the commercial side of poker.

Stop playing live cash when drunk.

Stop drinking when playing live tournaments.

Complete an Olympic Triathlon in less than 4 hrs before July 12th.

Play in do well in the Irish Open.

Have a major event won by a GJP player.

Id be happy with $150k, $200k is possible but i cant see any change in my laziness or nittiness next year.

I think about 80% of my live poker sessions in 07 were drunk ones, and with a bit of dedication i should be able to reach 90% next year.

    Post more

    Non poker

go to the superbowl if the chargers make it there (not gonna happen, but we can all dream)

I am happy with my 2007 results, this was my first year playing poker and I finished the year exactly 1k € up (not much for most players here, but a good start for me). My highlight was a win in a 20$ online tourney with 372 people...I was so happy about that! Then I had a bad November month and decided to take a month off until new year.

It annoys me that many non-poker people still consider this game 99% luck...so, as a result, my 2008 poker resolution is to prove the world that poker is primarily a game of skill by becoming a consistently losing player! No one-off winning, I must lose every single game! :)

Lol, my favourite quote from this thread. Wp

Also chargers have 0.00001% chance of reaching the Superbowl. Patriots and packers!

    - To destroy all shorties
    - Maintain a better balance between poker and college. (neither winning atm)
    - Not downswing as bad by taking a break. (15bi's) had me very low.
    - Build on my Roll and take a few shots at 200nl when its profitable.
    - Learn more about game theory.

    1) Build and maintain a very good online bankroll and apply the "non-cash out rule".

    2) Play at the very least 5k - 10k hands a month.

    3) Play a lot more satellites for bigger live events (mainly EPT's etc.) ...too young for the WSOP unfortunately, and hopefully have a bit of luck if I get that far.

    4) Play a lot regional tournaments more across the border, I will be down in the likes of CHL & The Fitz very soon to test the waters, I'll also be making plans to play in the European Deepstack Championships in Drogheda as well as any other fantastic tournaments that may crop up in our little island.

    5) To post a lot more hand histories on Boards.ie and review a lot more hands instead of talking sh*te. :D

Good luck to everybody else and their plans!
...and Merry Xmas & a Happy New Year :D

    poker

    1. separate life money from poker money

    2. be able to play more than 6 tables, need a new monitor on that note.

    3. stop tilting so easily, maybe coaching.

    4. ask macspower re: rates for 3.

    5. qualify for IO or another big live event

    6. be rolled for 2/4 by next december

    7. play live more i suppose

    8. eliminate shorties

    non poker

    1. get a 2.1 minimum even though i'll never work as an engineer

    2. kill jade goody samuel L style

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 568 ✭✭✭58o

    1. To stop being the opposite of a bankroll nit. Don't think i'll ever get to nit status but a bit more discipline wouldnt go astray to say the least.

    2. To play far less large field, high variance online tournies.Damn the siren call of those juicy, big prizepools on stars. My stars A/c is heftily in the red as regards these damn things. This is due to playing far too many tourneys when tired/not in the mood. Getting there in regards to this, have not played many since i left dublin.

    3. To play in either the WSOP or Irish open this year.

    4. To stop going on uber monkey tilt. A recently smashed laptop screen is testament to the work that needs to be done in this area.
