ACCA Level versus Degree versus Masters etc

    Hi,

    I'm trying to work out what order all these qualifications are in. Who is more qualified as an accountant etc.
    1. Bachelors Degree in Accountancy
    2. Masters Qualification in Accountancy
    3. PhD in Accountancy
    4. ACCA Qualification

    what order are these in?

    [1]Bachelors Degree in Accountancy
    [2]Masters Qualification in Accountancy
    [3]ACCA (ACA, CPA, CIMA etc) Qualification

    Can't envisage why anyone would want to do a PhD in Accountancy, so I'll not list it.

    I agree with smcgiff:

    [3]ACCA (ACA, CPA, CIMA etc) Qualification

    I don't think it's even possible to do a Phd in accountancy.

    I have 2 of the above qualifications above and they CLEARLY fall into the following order:
    [*]ACCA Qualification
    [*]Masters Qualification in Accountancy
    [*]Bachelors Degree in Accountancy

    The only one of those that would actually qualify to be called an accountant is the ACCA Qualification

    Therefore, the list would be;

    1. ACCA Qualification
    2. PhD in Accounting
    3. Masters Qualification in Accounting
    4. Batchelors Degree in Accounting

    is there even a phd in Accounting?

    A degree will have you covered up to Cap 2/Prof 3's

    A masters will have you as far as your fae's

    ACCA is a fully qualified accountant.

    On the National Qualification framework

    Level 7 is an Ordinary degree
    Level 8 is an honours degree
    Leven 9 is a masters degree and ACCA is in this catagory
    Level 10 is a doctorate

    To qualify as an accountant, you need to complete:

    CIMA, ACCA, ICAI, CPA or equivalent.
    A PhD in accountancy will not qualify you as an accountant!
    The professional exams (CIMA, ACCA, etc) are recognised as equivalent to a Masters Degree but are a specialised qualification in their own right - ie. to become an accountant).
    You can get exemptions from the various accounting bodies based on subjects from business, accounting, finance, IT/IS/computing, economics, maths and law degrees.
    I'm a part qualified CIMA accountant (I have the Cert and am doing their Diploma exams as well as a PhD) and hold a BSc, MSc and HDip and got exemptions based on these.

    Forgot to say: A PhD is a higher qualification than ACCA, CIMA, etc. but it will not make you an accountant. To be a professional accountant, you need to be a member of ACCA, CIMA, etc.

    So what is the use of phd when u are aready a ACCA holder? Im currently taking degree in accounting. So should i just go for ACCA after my degree?

    A PhD in Accounting is primarily for those interested in becoming a university lecturer/professor.

    It's pretty simple, if you want to become an accountant, do accounting exams.

    If you want to become a lecturer/professor, I still believe you should qualify as an accountant (to bridge the gap between practice and theory) then do a PhD.

    I'd 2nd this, it depends on what you want from your qualification. Even a PhD would not get you very far in the office whereas the academics would consider the ACCA qualification to by a light weight as there is no research in it
