Sole Trader and employed?

For the past few years Ive been doing some I.T. 'nixers' on the side. I have two coming up and would like to move away from nixer and formalise the process. Currently searching for employment and fingers crossed that will fall in place in the New Year. Once employed, can I then register as a Sole Trader? Or do I need to go…
