Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Task Manager disabled/No icons on desktop

When I log onto my home PC (Windows XP), no icons appear on the desktop. When I try to access task manager I get a message saying it has been disabled.
I can only access programs through a guest account on my PC.
I tried to run a program to remove system restrictions made by malicious software on the guest account but I got a message saying I had to be logged on as the administrator.

Can anyone recommed something I can download to remove system restrictions made by malicious software which I can run on the guest account where I will not be logged on as an administrator ?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't believe there's much you can do as a guest - that's the whole point of the guest account, sadly.

Perhaps you could try logging in as Admistrator, and seeing what you can do from there?

Also there is the option of booting to safe mode. Do you mean that when you log in as a normal user and find that the task manager is disabled?

Do this from the account that has restrictions

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
    • Close all other windows before proceeding.
    • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
    • If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious.
    • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
