I think that by asserting that the French were of a lower intellectual status it was borderline racism, as it is not a quantifiable characteristic that can be verified with hard facts.

Alternatively, you could have said, 'My decision won't be based on any domestic issues as that would be plain stupid and stooping to the French level of Euroscepticism' or something along those lines, which is a legitimate generalisation given that the outcomes of democratic means in that country do point to a majority in favour of maintaining relative domestic sovereignty.

    Just my tuppence worth. :)

Ah yes but the point I was getting at was that it wasn't euroscepticism or anything like it that caused the French no decision, it was plain voting no for the sake of it because we don't like our domestic arrangement.

They voted no without taking the Constitutional Treaty in to account at all.

You especially BD should know that journos make sweeping generalisations to population the whole time, and so did I.

What I said was an observation of the mentality and surrounding goings on. What Gandalf said wase pure and utter personal abuse

    imo you werent being racist

but i also believe that for something to be racist you msut look down on said racial group because of a trait. for example saying that all irish people are brainy basterds is not racist but it is still a stereotype.

saying all french are socialist demonstrators is prejudice but not necessarily racist.

    yes i am intoxicated

I'm not intoxicated but I may try to fix that later and.....and :boggle: what on earth does the above have to do with UL or more importantly Christmas. God damnit I'm a network engineer who can't hold a conversation without veering into talking about IT but for Christmas I can get over that little failing. ninty9er go get pissed again it'll do you the world of good.......in fact all of you go get pissed it'll help you through Christmas and the associated insanity.

as the title says...nothing to do with UL, I just value the opinions of the people here, especially since someone takes a swipe at my sig in every second thread I post in over on motors.

Doesn't happen here! not seriously anyway

    I can't imagine why ;)

Right I need to get this right so correct me if I'm wrong. VRT is a once off tax you pay when you buy a car yeah? I think this is what changed in the budget to something based on emissons? And normal road taz is something you pay every year i.e. the stuff the gards stop you and check for and this hasn't changed yet?

Personally I'm all for emissons based road taxation.....it makes sense to me that less efficient vehicles with higher emissons should be taxed more. I don't particularly care wheather it was a GP or FF idea but kudos to whoever did it.

PM me if you actually want to know, but it does only apply to cars registered after July next year.

I genuinely do....but at the moment feeding myself takes precedence over taxation matters :) as you can see I have my priorities correct.

I'm not sure if I trust you.....to be honest my faith in other peoples (aside from a small number) plans to get **** faced has been seriously shaken in the last while. There are certain people that I can trust but I reckon I could do a better job than you when it comes to getting ninty9er ****faced. Hell I even went out tonight without a plan and managed to get drunk.

Ehhh what is this doing in the UL forum?

Yes, you were being racist. Only one person who voted, apart from yourself, thinks otherwise.

It clearly states NOTHING TO DO WITH UL in the title! I'm a regular poster here, I was looking for the opinions of other regular posters, unlike 2 of the people who happened to turn up and vote!

I'm just curious really, the result of the vote isn't going to change my mind, but curiosity, as they say, killed the cat
