Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ending dual spending battles with President Bush, the Democratic-controlled Congress passed a $555 billion bill Wednesday that funds the Iraq war well into next year and government agencies through September.

The population of Iraq is estimated as such:

IraqPopulation: 27,499,638 (July 2007 est.) (Link)

If my calculations are correct (and they may not be, it's quite difficult figuring out 555 billion on a calculator ) then this $555 Billion equates to $201.82 per person in Iraq (give or take).

Now I reckon this money can be better spent than squandering it on daisycutters and armored hummers.

So I purpose that the Americans down tools, and instead that they send a care package to every Iraqi citizen to the tune of approximately $201.82.

    Here is my suggestion:

     $129.99 - PS2 (Black or Silver)
    $19.99 - Additional controller
    $13.18 - Memory card
$19.99 - PS2 Game ('God of war' maybe or perhaps they fancy something different like finding nemo, etc)

    But the piste de résistance:

    $17.74 - A retro Spacehopper
    _________
    Total cost

    $200.89 (close enough).

27,499,638 Iraqis bouncing around on Spacehoppers. Imagine the craic they would have, it'd be great gas. There'd be no stopping them.

What do you think the Americans should send in the care packages, to the tune of approx $201.82?

What would be the best centerpiece for the Iraqis Care Package? 27 votes

You'd probably also need to get them tvs. How about a PS2 and a tv per every 2 people?

The $555 billion is for the entire Federal budget, not just the wars. The wars are only $70 billion of that.

    $555 billion = $20,182.08 per Iraqi
    $70 billion = $2,545.49 per Iraqi

Of course, they could have saved a fortune by say bribibg Saddam for $20 billion so that he'd quit.

That was the figure I came up with the first time, but ever since I come up with $201.82.

I think you may be miscalculating yore billionz.

hmmm, To think I had it right the first time I calculated it, and then questioned myself and redid it incorrectly every subsequent time.

    Ok...

Firstly: well... the budget has gone up. They are all getting PS3's and LCD Tellys.

Secondly: The fact that I managed to get some random person on the interweb to create a spreadsheet called 'spacehoppers.xls' is in itself a success. (in my strange mind).

I think they'd enjoy gta, so you should probably ship that to them too.

How about instead of buying consoles for the Iraqis they get a Wii and Links crossbow training for each soldier over there.

Might improve aims and stop any of them "friendly fire" accidents ;)

Al Qaeda would intercept the space-hoppers for their cavalry and surround the American wagons. End of story.

I think the people of Iraq would enjoy a nice game of Hungry Hungry Hippos.

The balance could be given as a donation on their behalf to "the human fund".
