Have to say the arrogance of RTE is amazing.

All during the holiday period they have been advertising the benefits of the Licence fee and colouring it with excerpts from Tubridy, Darcy,O'Rourke et al and all these dudes sitting back on their Lazy Boy recliners while the C listers play records and repeats are rampant for 10 days.

Total disrespect for the license payer in my opinion, total disrespect.

I hope it's ok to ' bump' this one ....

    Came across it this morning

So will be interesting to see how the tape recorders and the double doses of Collins work out over the school holidays.

Collins will get big exposure, god help us

    Plenty of documentaries, and such.

Wonder who will be the backup #2

Conor Brophy might get a bit of exposure, Murray will be in there.

Interesting time for speculation as the A listers lie back for the full stretch.

Could be a good time to suss out the jib of those fill ins and see if any serious contenders emerge.

Surely D'Arcy must be under some pressure ?

Interesting to see if Murray fills in again on Drivetime....they still seem to be figuring out how best to use him.

Probably hear more from the super culchies Lally and Lenihan as well as an antidote to the "noirmal" D4 drawls.....

    Good observations there Paddy.

A lad I would watch out for is Conor Brophy, seems to me making the step to the next level.

Only thing holding him back in my opinion is the Dalkey /DL auld accent which grates on me big time, y'know the pronouncing 'o' as 'U' as in 'cumpanie'.

If the lad could shift that or even tone it down a bit , he'd be quite acceptable.

Only lad who is omni-present seems to be Sean Rocks, like Odlum's flour ,never varies.

Interesting, not the content I hasten to add, the jockeying for position.

Only dead certain is Collins for the two hour stint in the morning.

The good news is that Joe Duffy won't present Liveline next week.

The bad news is that he will however be on air to present the annual year in review show.

The really bad news is that Funny Friday won't be on the obituary list in said show.

You will probably find that the year in review will be pre-recorded so that Duffy can have a chew of the turkey drumsticks without any tiresome work commitments.

He, or his producer should have the stones to cut "Funny Friday" with it's coterie of clapped out has beens and Z listers.....

I know this is about the content over Christmas in the radio equivalent of the big country house but I see that red fm here in cork are promoting the fact that non of their djs will be on on Christmas Day.

How depressing for the employees. I wonder are they really going to be there or is there just going to be a lot of fake live shows.

They could have done with a C90 this afternoon to take the place of Niall O'Carroll. In 30 seconds he told us that Wham's hits included Jitterbug and Wake Me Up and that they were formed in 1983 and 1984

    How the mighty have fallen

I see poor Derek Mooney shoehorned into some obscure time slot with a recording of something or other today, I think.

Big comedown it would seem for him.

No sign of Jackson yet, from what I can hear.

However I ignore RTE radio this time of year, thank the Lord for Tune in, and digital

I'd love to know who's cornflakes Derek took a slash in.

Prime radio show and regular television gigs to what you outlined above is some fall from grace.

Truth is despite all the pushing of personal hobby-horses, he's a very capable broadcaster and is generally likeable.

Possible sleeper bet for the Anton Savage/D'Arcy slot on Today FM unless his airtime improves drastically.

Uuuuuuhmmm........ It's mid term break next week.

Interesting to see who the A- listers who are working teachers hours are.

    Hmmmmmm.........

Will be keeping a beady eye on the situation.

There is Baz in for Ray Darcy - but sure aren't they entitled to their annual leave?

Damien O Reilly in for the Dufficer.

Hmm teachers hours, not teachers pay.

Will be keeping a close eye on this as mid term breaks are staggered.

    OMG ! OMG!!

Rocks is not doing arena, and who is in?

Kay Sheehy the one who got the junket to Japan for the World Cup last time it was there.

    I'll have to go for a lie-down.

Conor Brophy was the Business news presenter on Morning Ireland yesterday and today he is the co-presenter of Morning Ireland. When co-presenting, I notice the Business content of the main programme tends to be higher. I think Brophy is good at business but not really suited to the main programme.

Aren't the contracted staff salaries for 2015 meant to be released this week? Maybe that's why Joe is gone into hiding this week

He has done a bit of MI well before this, also news at one, in my opinion being groomed for better things.

Only thing which bugs me a bit about him is that accent.

Tends to pronounce 'companies' as 'cuumpanies' and so on.

Couldn't take that on a long show, OK for bulletins but that's only my opinion.

Not at all, and in fairness poor Damien is struggling a bit, but it's teachers hours for a lot of these lads.

I predicted it a few pages ago.

Shay Byrne been covering for Ronan all week.

And covering well too, with Ronan it's like slipping into an old shoe, bedded in and every carbuncle catered for.

Time for change here, no time for music by numbers.

    No Sean O' Rourke.

    No Ronan Collins.

Whoever is hanging around doing News at One-no change there admittedly.

    No Joe Duffy.

    No D'Arcy.

    No Mary Wilson.

This has been the case all week, 95% of the daytime first choice presenters off at the same time.

    Totally unacceptable.

Richard Curran's Business show on holidays as well... And even post Marion Richardson was away this morning, they had some quirky wan presenting the show this morning. She was funny in parts actually, quite a difference from Marion Richardson's usual "Private school girl reading a book report" feel to the show.

As was Sean Rock on the Arts show. Late Debate won't be back for a few weeks either. This left Tubby as the sole main headliner on the daytime schedule.

I don't know about ye lot, but I'm enjoying the temporary shake-up.

From Carol Moran standing in for Ronan Collins (and doing a very fine job of it, no more i-pod shuffle), to Cormac O hEadhra, who manages to be far more laid-back and (at the same time) more incisive than Sean O'Rourke, to Philip Boucher Hayes, professional journalist, covering for Joe Duffy, self-publicist. Then you have comedy shows in the evening with the likes of Colm O'Regan.

This isn't half-bad at all. I'd happily live with this schedule all year round. I've barely listened to Newstalk or my local radio station at all this past week.

Cormac was floundering badly on Friday during the item on Denis Corkery having the audacity to say he wasn't a fan of women's rugby , got much too emotional about a fairly insignificant item.

Yeah, that was a terrible interview. But Denis Corkery was simply refusing to engage, trying to answer every question with a question, and outright denying he intended to mean what he clearly said. I'm not sure how anyone can work with that kind of guest.

Don't get me wrong, some of the cover is good and a chance can be as good as a rest, but for as many big hitters to be off the air at the same time is stretching the programming department big time. The comedy is good but it is just two shows in one hour, and shows that won't be around anytime soon. Panti has a certain novelty value as well but mess that is That Baz Thing is arguably Radio 1's worst show in years. The gap post Creedon is especially noticeable all told and it could cost his show listeners when it comes to be counted in the 2018 books.

Will be interesting to see who has the 'teachers hours' out in Montrose.

Should start up end of this week with a number of burning questions

    Will Joe Jackson be heard?

Who will be the 'sweeper' the token star

Will Baz have a big role

How many documentaries will be heard.

What major programmes will be truncated

Will the words"This prog. was first broadcast..." be heard

    Will Charlie Bird appear ...

The Nation holds its breath.... .............

There's going to be a couple of Hum-Dingers during Christmas Week on Radio Won, that's for sure. Take Wednesday December 27th for instance:

Today with Sean O'Rourke, presented Castleknock farmer, Damien O'Reilly

Two shows to replace the mighty Liveline....
    13:30 "Waiting"
Part 1 From bus stops to book shops, via births, marriages and deaths, Waiting is a comedy sketch show all about women who are waiting. Recorded live at The Project Arts Centre Dublin, starring Deirdre O'Kane, Caitriona Ennis and Rose Henderson. Written by Fiona Looney.

    And at 14:00 "Situationships"
Award winning writer Stefanie Preissner and her BFF Rachel Yoder are separated by 3000 miles but their friendship flourishes. In Situationships they explore the dynamic and the difficulties of maintaining a long term female friendship.

Then at 15:00 "Sure T'was Better"

Will Hanafin is joined on the couch by Seventologists Jules Coll and Joanne McNally as they decide whether it really was better in the Seventies or was just as messy and complicated as life is today....

Presenter & Producer: Will Hannafin (That producer credit will be news to the SIPTU producers of RTE who had to apply for a job and do a training course to be a producer, apparently)

And especially from the Head of Content just for you, Brendan:
    22:00 Joe Jackson Tapes Revisited
..."the second of two interviews he did with Joe Dolan - the first was for the RTE Radio 1 series Under The Influence, which he also revisits for this show"
    Reheated stuff from Jackson.

Actually, when I look at those programmes again, it reads like a parody schedule. Sadly it's real. And these fookers are looking for a top up on the license fee.

In the words of Boris, they can go whistle.

Well Dáil Éireann is finished for the Christmas period so late debate is probably off as well.

Indeed, but why does that mean the Late Debate closes down?

Is there nothing newsworthy going in between December 20 and January 08.

Does the country ‘close down’ or something.
