Well done to PowerCity for getting in early and starting to sell online. But their web site looks like it's stuck in a early 1980's time warp, and it's so slow. It badly needs a complete overhaul.

they are talking about connecting it to a computer, so dont worry about that

be careful with all that hd nonsense
a normal tv signal from an aerial or regular sky will look crap on most of them - the old crt is still clearer

to get a clear picture on most hd lcd you need to have a hd input
so for tv you need to buy and subscribe to sky hd box - which is another rip off .

all a bit of a scam really to get you to buy more electronics - stick with the old crt

Yeah, was kind of aware of that, but went and bought the 20" Samsung full HD tv for €279 anyway. Hopefully won't be too bad on regular signal. Had a decent picture in the shop amongst all the other tellys getting the same signal, and was €20 cheaper than the non-HD Beko which was my other consideration. The 26" Sony Bravia was long gone :) No-one wanted the Samsungs 'cos they weren't wall-mountable, but that's not an issue for me.

Maybe it's just this specific model. They were stating very clearly, on the website, the stickers and in person, that this one was not wall-mountable. I don't know any more than that. Although 40" and 32" you'd kind of want on the wall, cos they'd take up far too much space otherwise. This is only a 20".

Possibly. I thought it said 30Gb, but could be mis-remembering :)

i was talking about bargains in general not this one.

fair play you got a bargain.

what i was trying to get across though is that any price tag in a store/poster/advert is an invitation to treat and they aren't legally bound to sell you the item and that price.

    enjoy your ps3.

According to the staff in Coolock there were people queing at 7am for them, they were gone from there at 9:10am.
I'm wondering about the sanyo now, they advertised it as 32" for €499 and the only one on the website is €584 (with discount), so are there 2 different Sanyos with 2 different prices?

Word of warning. PS3 doesnt come with the cables for HD set up. Buy a HDMI cable also, cause without it it looks ****E

I work there and the sammy 20 inch is a tft monitor with a tv tuner, and is not wall mountable also no teletext.

Philips 32" were sold out in about 2 minutes flat.

Apprently some old timer got crushed in coolock from a stamped :D (well not funny on the guy, but funny and sad what people would do for a bargain)

ps3 offer was online only? I work there and only found out about that on this thread :D

Just to rub salt in anyone's wounds looking for a 32, my branch had 15 left over, but at 699. They only had 20 sets at 399 in each branch, even if they had 40 sets. kinda dumb.

We are price matching ANY price from any other retailer tomorrow. ANY.

    So thats DID/Brisco's/Harveys etc...

So Grumpy is the 32" Sanyo online the same as the one they're advertising for 499 in the papers?

Let me ask ya, my samsung has all its connections coming out at 90degree angle to the tele itself, so i was thinking i might need more space between the tele and the wall than a regular mount would allow. Is yours the same, and if so, this mount is ok?

am i right in saying that if you walk into any major shop be it electrical or otherwise and they have ,lets say a 42" plasma priced at €1,700 they are not legally bound to sell you the item at that price even though that law states it must be priced?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

yes, when a retailer puts something out on it's shelf it's an invitation to treat.

when you go and bring the tv to the counter - or ask someone that you want to buy it - you are starting off a contract to buy the said item, the other party involved in the contract can accept your offer or decline it.

this dips into more detail about it...

Ah. Well now, they didn't say that (thought I did think it looked a bit computer-monitor-y). Does it make any difference to the use of it as a TV? I mean, is it any worse as a TV than a purpose-made TV would be? Cos I asked for their recommendation between the Samsung and the 20" HD-ready Philips, and was told straight out to take the Samsung.

Coolock still had several too at that price when I left near 11am.

Hmm, anyone know what kind of deals the other retailers have going? Might bring my Samsung computer monitor back ;)

We have one of them (it may be 19") but its grand as a TV connected to a DVD player. Its quite slim so we brought it on holidays and it worked grand tuning in most channels in France.

Colours don't seem as good as on a CRT but overall the quality is fine.
