I know some of the lads who work in NCT post here and wonder is there any sign of a national mileage record become available. Another words you pay a fee and are able to check the mileage/details of a car you are considering buying. And the mileage records are taken from when the car first did its NCT up until the most recent so you can see if there is any major change up or down.
Is it when a car is four years old it has to do its first NCT

    Thanks

There already is such a system in place. Two (or more?) private companies offer to do vehicle background checks for a fee -

    www.cartell.ie
    www.carsireland.ie

The info they use re mileage comes via the NCT service and gardai (who log mileage details when an NCT cert is produced for a vehicle).

IIRC, the first NCT on private cars is due after four years.

Apparently the reason that this isn't released by the NCTS is for data protection.
The cartell type readings are based on some dealer or user input and to a large extent aren't worth the paper they aren't written on!

Thanks for the links Silvera, KBannon if the mileage verifing is not done through the nct system then as you say its really a joke.
When the HPI gather info on a car in the UK I presume they have verified indopentent sources?. Also can anyone tell me if cars in the UK are subjected to a MOT from year one onwards or are they like us and work on a four year system.
ITs a shame there cannot be a system in place that indopendently checks/verifies car mileage on a yearly basis as you can clock up alot of miles in the four years before a cars first NCT test where mileage could be altered
