As far as i can tell the only dfference is that the 250 as the European maps. Is it possible at a later date to load the European maps in the 200W? What are the current costs for this?

Thats the only diff, but the difference in price first day may only be E30 or so, the diff in buying european maps at a later stage maybe anywhere between E80 and E200 depending on if you want single country or all of europe. Get the 250.

    Thanks,

What about the W versus the non W model. Am i paying only for widescreen?

Yes, a wider screen. Its a nice option as you get a wider view of the map.

The Garmin website has the option to compare different models against each other. :)

ie 250W versus 250? Well, the only difference there is the widescreen, the widescreen is def nice, only drawback is its a bit bulky for carrying around if you're on foot or when you take it away from the car when parked.

Garming 250w is E299 in Dixons they say it is reduced by E100 from E399 it has v9 maps thats a rip off

    The 250W is now at €209.95 and €14.90 postage with expansys.ie = €227.98

It says it comes with Preloaded City Navigator® NT for Europe (full coverage)
so i assume this is the latest version? Would there be a need to mail them first to confirm?

Assume nothing! It looks like a lot of the retailers have the 2008 maps but not all. They seem to mention that in the blurb tho. If it has the old maps you prob will be able to get the upgrade free of charge but it looks like nobody's sure of that. Have a look back through the threads for various opinions...
I suggest make sure its the 2008 maps you're getting, as you said an email is prob the way to go and better than a phone call.
I got my 250W in Halfords a few weeks ago and it had new maps.

bought a garmin 250w in soundstore (tralee) today, 239.99 euro. only playing with it now. maps are "city navigator europe nt 2008". these are the new maps as far as i know. please correct me if i am wrong.

halfords in the same retail park were looking for 269.99 euro. they have a price promise in that they will match a price in another shop. i asked the assistant a few questions about the 250w and then told him about the soundstore price. suddenly the 250w was "out of stock".

250w's are sold out in most halfords :( The supplier isn't sending very many to Ireland for some reason. But halfords DO price match and have no problem doing so :D

Just got a Nuvi 250 and have a question about the settings. From reaning the manual you can change the screen brightness by going
Tools-Settings-Display .... only problem is there is no option for Display in the Settings menu???

    Anyone else have this problem???

On mine there is... click the spanner, then settings, then on mine "Display" is the second option down. Click on it and it gives options to change the colour mode, ie daytime, nighttime or auto, and the screenshot able or disable, last option down is Brightness, when I go into that it gives a plus and minus button from 10 to 100%.
If you dont have it then make sure you're running the latest version of the software (V2.9 AFAIK) by using WebUpdater from the Garmin website. I think it was sully a couple of weeks ago didn't have an option on his 250 but it was down to having an older version of software. He updated and it appeared!

Cheers, just updated to v3.60 and the Display Settings are now available.
Noticed the unit takes a bit longer to boot up now with the updated software.

Just an answer about the Garmin mapping, if any unit gets shipped out with the older mapping once you register with Garmin you can get the newest one for free.

I did with mine anyway, if you are cheeky and had the newest maps when you bought it you can wait till the new maps come out and register then. Errmmm no one from Elara told you about that last part. :D

So if you buy from Elara, do you get old maps?, then you have to register with Garmin and wait for a delivery of new maps from Garmin ? or can you just download them?

Also with Elara does the 250w come with a windscreen mount? or do you have to pay extra for that?

That is not what I am suggesting, I am saying that no matter who you get Garmin off if you get old maps it is not a problem as you can get the new maps for free anyway. The point of Garmin doing this is so there won't be issues with customers getting older maps. I am not sure if you can download it.

Mount comes with the unit, as they all do.

p.s. When I got my Garmin we did not do Garmin, as some of you might know we only brought it in a few months ago. I have had mine for nearly a year.

Unfortunately we don't know when prices are going to go back up, we get sent print-offs the night before and they are put up that night or the following morning before opening, so can't guarantee that it'll be at the price :(
