External hard drive

Hope this is the right forum for this question !

I have loads of photos and music on my ageing laptop so now might be a good time to get myself an external hard drive to back everything up onto etc. I want a good robust one with plenty of storage (250GB)

Any recommendations as to the best buys or alternatively ones to definitely avoid ??

Will buy online so price is not the main issue for me - more interested in boards users' experiences as to what ones are worth a look, and what ones are complete turkeys etc.

Anyone know if any of these support playlists. I mean can I create a playlist for music while it is attached to PC can I then use the playlist when it is attached to the TV ?
