Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Private companies checking your work history ?

At the moment I am self employed, but I'm thinking of getting out of it, so truthfully I have a few 'white lies' on me CV. In the past I have applied for and got jobs with companies that claim they can employ private companies to check out your work background matches your CV ?? Obviously they can ring up your referrees, but apart from the referreees, I would have thought that access to such private inforamtion would be illegal, ( though for a state job it would be another story ).

Is it just a bluff ?

What would be the point of having a CV that a potential employer could not carry out checks on? If they were that way inclined, they could contact your old national school, college, or any previous employer.

If you've told them that you're qualified to pilot a commercial airline, and you haven't really got the qualifications necessary, there'll be a few surprises on the runway if they weren't allowed to check your CV

They can only check referees that you authourise them to call. They have no legal way to check anything else.

Potential employer "Do you mind if I call these people?"

Potential employee "Oh no, you can't call them."

    Potential employer "There's the door"

Can you not read ya clown ? " Obviously they can ring up your referees, but apart from the referees, I would have thought that access to such private inforamtion would be illegal " and I don't have to worry about old schools etc. When your a 30 something they don't bother asking what your inter cert, attendance record etc was like Einstein :);)

Thanks Bond-007. The 'white lie' is that I don't want to put down a previous employer I jacked up with and will just claim I was self employed during that period. As I thought " apart from the referreees, I would have thought that access to such private information would be illegal, ( though for a state job it would be another story ? ) "

Well, thank you for that - and good luck with your fraudulent deception. Psychological profiling is quite common these days, in addition to interviews, and is a good way of sorting out the wheat from the chaff.

I don't appreciate being insulted for offering sound advice.
