Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. So half the season is gone. Who are your best 11 in their positions? Mine below:

    1. James
    2. Sagna
    3. Clichy
    4. Vidic
    5. Ferdinand
    6. Elano
    7. Ronaldo
    8. Fabregas
    9. Torres
    10. Adebayor
    11. Santa Cruz

    Debate away!

    1. Almunia
    2. Sanga
    3. Clichy
    4. Ferdinand
    5. Vidic
    7. Ronaldo
    8. Fabregas
    6. Elano
    11. Martin Petrov
    9. Torres
    10. Adebayor

Martin Petrov is a sensation in my opinion and him and Ronaldo on the flanks would be devastating. Gerrard and Elano was the only debate i had, i went for Elano because of his sheer Brazilian brilliance but it was really 50/50.

    Good selection.

But Elano is too inconsistent IMO

I had to include him. He has been my standout player in the EPL this season, I just love the guy and his attitude, work ethic, skill and potential.

    eh?

didnt think potential would be a factor for team of the season.

Gerrard has to be in any team imo

Potential is a factor in every Liverpool signing for the last 15 years.

    Cheap scousers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

Mr.Alan please stop forcing Gerrard on people's teams lol, this is people's opinions. and Tusky honestly i didnt know Gerrard's stats were so good, infact for some reason he seems quiter than usual but his stats say different, plus Elano was injured during the peak of his form and was out for some time. Im giving him the nod for his flair.

Is there a statistical team of the season from opta-index or something could it would be interesting to see.

    VDS

    Ferdinand---Laursen---Dunne

    Flamini
    Ronaldo---Fabregas---Petrov
    Gerrard

    Keane---Anelka

Haven't been overly impressed with any right-back and couldn't leave out any of the 3 defenders I have, so I went with the dreaded 3-5-2!...if I was including a left back Evra would just pip Clichy.
By the end of the season I'd envisage I'd replace Flamini with Anderson because I think he's better but hasn't played enough to merit a place - Flamini has been great in all Arsenals games to be fair to him.

Hunt and Arteta just miss out in midfield and Torres up front.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

Van Der Sar? Hes been very shakey and injury prone this season. Great Midfield though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

I'll force Gerrard on all the teams i want!

if only i had the power to edit other peoples posts! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

then something tells me my team of the season would look like:

    1. Reina
    2. Carragher
    3. Carragher
    4. Carragher
    5. Carragher
    6. Gerrard
    7. Gerrard
    8. Gerrard
    9. Gerrard
    10. Torres
    11. Torres

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

that would be the best team ever ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

Actually it would be pretty good.

    Lets see Rafa rotate that!

A bit weak on the left wing IMO. Replace Gerrard #4 with Stephen Hunt and you're golden!

Ye, suffered a blip of late but for me he was the best keeper from August through to November. Honestly though there has been no outstanding keeper this season. All of them have made errors and what not.

Youve got a team thats slow at the back and cant pass.

And its finishing ability is debatable.

    former Liverpool fan.

Too many tough calls, so I made two teams:

    James

    Laursen
    Ferdinand
    Gallas
    Clichy

    Ronaldo
    Fabregas
    Gerrard
    Petrov

    Torres
    Santa Cruz

    Green

    Sagna
    Vidic
    Distin
    Evra

    Bentley
    Elano
    Flamini
    Young

    Adebayor
    Keane

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

So Carragher is slow? Gerrard cant pass and Torres cant finish?

Not sure wats objective about that tbh mate

failing to see the objectivity there too

how would that midfield lineup DSB?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,951 ✭✭✭DSB

It probably wouldn't work tactically really. I just didn't think any striker bar Santa Cruz really deserved a place. If I was to make a more tactically considered team the midfield would probably be

    Young Flamini Fabregas Ronaldo

    Gerrard

    Santa Cruz

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

    Torres?Keane?Adebayour?Anelka?

I'd have all them on level pegging if not higher than Santa Cruz tbh!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,951 ✭✭✭DSB

Still undecided about Torres, Keane is the product of a team who attack so much to try cover up the fact that they can't defend (don't actually think he is any good at all), Adebayor maybe actually, Anelka has been pretty good and scored alot of goals but again undecided. All pretty good players (except Keane) but not sure if any of them have been Team Of The Year quality except for maybe Adebayor.

I like Santa Cruz because he has scored alot of goals in a team that aren't particularly attacking and on plenty of occasions he has been up front on his own. Like his attitude too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

    fair enough.

maybe being a little harsh on Keane, but havent been overly "keen" on him myself over the years (see wat i did there?!:)), have to admit though, my opinion of him is changing by the week. just wont stop scoring.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,951 ✭✭✭DSB

Has to be put into perspective with the sort of football the team are playing though. 6-4 isn't a result a manager should be pleased with in my opinion. 3 points yeah but perform like that against a team that can defend and you'll be ripped apart. Put anyone half decent up front in that team and they'll be scoring for fun. Keane is shown up as the player he is when he has to play with less impressive service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

    fair enough.

and Torres is the real deal by the way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,951 ✭✭✭DSB

We'll see. Has shown plenty of potential to be top class but only in patches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

well if he plays "in patches" like he has thus far, he'll be on about 30 goals for the season in his first year :)

    That'll do me.

Going to bed to listen to Pneumonia by Whiskeytown. Goodnight!

    (D) Evra
    (D) Dunne
    (D) Ferdinand
    (D) Sagna

    (M) Ronaldo
    (M) Fabregas
