Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

11.25pm: According to Sky Sports News, some food was delivered at Fratton Park for the pen-pushers awaiting developments in Manchester, where Benjani is being prodded with a stick by a quack.

    2326: BREAKING NEWS - MIDDLESBROUGH in/HEERENVEEN out
Boro finally get their man as they complete the signing of Heerenveen's Brazilian striker Afonso Alves. They say it breaks their transfer record, but they won't officially say what it is. BBC Sport understands it is in the region of £12m. Now that is a proper fee for deadline day. Bullseye.

Theres always a couple that pop out of left field really late, remember pandiani's move to brum a few years ago? Fax was received at 11.59, was outcry from others around the relegation area that it might not have fully gotten through till 12.02 or something. Id say there will be a couple that dont get announced till later/early in the morning anyway.

Please a winger to liverpool but im not counting on it.

Yeah Cashley's move wasn't announced til around 1am I think.

Word now reaching me that Benjani has in fact signed

He would be a good signing for you, also think Defoe is a good move for Portsmouth and the player.

But if we don't sign Benjani then Defoe goes nowhere.

This exact same thing happened last year when we had Mido in the bag then f*cked up the sending of the fax. Though we did dodge a bullet there.

Surely Pompey could've coughed up the money for Defoe regardless. They haven't been huge spenders this window.

they dont really need him if Benjani stays though. Would have Utaka, Nugent, Baros, Benjani, Kanu and Defoe then once the african nations finishes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

Forgot they just signed Baros (though I know who I'd rather!). I had been thinking it was just Benjani, Kanu, Utaka and Nugent (who has a relatively long-term injury)

From the official City site -
Manchester City have confirmed the signing of 19-year-old Ecuadorian international striker Felipe Caicedo from FC Basel.

The powerfully build frontman already has 15 international appearances and two goals under his belt, and previously played at Under 20 and Under 17 level for Los Tricolores. He featured for Ecuador in last year's Copa America after bagging seven goals in his first season in Switzerland following his transfer from Rocafuerte FC.

Twelve league starts this season have seen the young frontman score four goals for the team managed by former Tottenham boss Christian Gross, who are currently top of the table in the Swiss Super League.

    One down, one to go.

I thought that was pretty clear. We've signed one player now we just have to sort the other one out i.e. Benjani.

    is Gardner that bad ?

i guess were replacing our old servant stubbs, who gave us great latter day service --

Fernandes is a class signing , in moyes we trust

    Yeah BBC has it too

    0054: BREAKING NEWS - PORTSMOUTH in/TOTTENHAM out
One of the most protracted moves of the day has finally been confirmed and Jermain Defoe completes his switch to Pompey from Spurs, on the day he was left out of the England squad by Fabio Capello. We don't know the fee, but it's a "long-term" deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

Even if it hasn't gone through there are loopholes to get it put through tomorrow. Thats the way Southampton signed Rasiak, who ironically enough left for Bolton today. Skacel gone to Hertha as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Some lad just posted a thread on the City forum titled "It's off...." and an OP of "...to bed for me". Lightened the mood nicely!

And the deal is now off say SSN

Manchester City have confirmed that the proposed transfer of Portsmouth striker Benjani to the Blues was unsuccessful.

City spokesman Paul Tyrrell said, "Due to the late arrival of the player in Manchester we were unable to complete the transfer."

I suppose Gardner is only short term replacment for Stubbs. We get rid of an average slow defender and we sign a faster average defender.;)

Ciaron. That quote in your sig is incorrect. He said "I have not been short of invitations to other clubs and have been received more warmly by Everton than I have by Liverpool."

The end bit is added on.

He also said "If Everton were playing at the bottom of the garden, I'd pull the curtains."

Apparently Twitching 'arry is complaining to the FA about the Benjani deal falling through. Seemingly Pompey are f*cked for the Defoe cash if we don't get Benjani. Looks like we've shafted him big time! City don't seem to want anything to do with the appeal either.

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3098702,00.html
The Premier League are to examine the paperwork over the proposed transfer of Portsmouth's Benjani Mwaruwari to Manchester City.

It had been thought the deal was off after City failed to complete the signing of the Zimbabwe international striker on transfer deadline day.

City stated that due to the player's late arrival into Manchester on Thursday

they did not have enough time to seal the deal.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp was confident of the deal going through following their capture of Spurs' Jermain Defoe.

Despite initially appearing as though Benjani would be staying at Fratton Park, it now seems the Premier League could yet allow the deal.

I didn't deliberatelt do anything, I took the quote from something I was reading. There was nothing at the end of it. If there was as Tusky mentioned I am sorry , but I wasn't aware of it till about 2 hours ago.

Harry Redknapp on signing Jermain Defoe:
    BBC wrote:
He is a terrific finisher and has always scored goals. With a run and confidence he will show that he is a top, top goalscorer.

So that's where Jamie got it from ;)

I dont think Az got anything off anyone. Boro bought Alves off Herenveen and AZ are pissed as they claim they had an agreement to buy.

    Apologies I see it now.:o:o

I do know where I got it from the added bit from now because I googled the quote and I must have copied the wiki one instead of the website one.

    http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Bill_Shankly

I generally dont use wiki as I know people tamper with them. Apologies I hold my hand up as I copied the wrong one.
