Stay away from the smoking area in the Riverforest, lest I slap the cigarette out of your hand. :)

    Hi,
Off since newyear cold turkey but got some gum this week as backup.

Have had 2 bad days but did the 10 minute trick and forced myself out of craving. Deep breathng also helps protend your smoking.

not sure if ye have seen this one but a handy little program for ypur desktop.

    http://www.smokerscalc.com/download.php:D

Best off luck to one and all, just keep thinking of the regret you could feel in 20 years time if you go back to cigs and say 'if only i had stopped!' to your family.

I only know one person who managed to give up cigarettes and still smoke weed without going back on the smokes, and I know about 20 who tried.
I suggest laying off the weed until you feel comfortable enough to smoke it without using it as a substitute for cigarettes.
Despite government promises that every town in Ireland is awash with drugs, I've yet to find a reliable source of weed so I don't get to smoke all that often and when I do it's usually only enough for a day or two. So I'm not using weed as a substitute. In fact only last night I got the makings of a spliff, ran home threw it out on the table only to remember I've no skins or tobacco to roll the feckin' thing. Disgusted with meself I was.

Just on this actually, the only person i know who has quit the fags and still smokes the old weed uses a pipe rather than mix it with tobacco. In my experience a joint is a bit like having a few drags of a cigarette and sets my cravings, Mind you its been a long time since i have smoked any weed must be getting sensible in my old age lol!!

I'm sorry to hear that. :D Never mind your bound to lose some sensibility after retirement.

Hey everyone. Well done to everyone who's still on the wagon!:D It gets easier, and id recommend using the money youve saved (or part of anyway) to reward yourself. As soon as Id saved 500 euro on fags, I booked a return flight NY (May last year) and the money I spent was what I would have spent for the last 6 months! It gives you a sense of achievement...just an idea! :)

ROFL, yeah maybe its more of a lack of opportunity since leaving college!!

@ Jeapy, yeah its a good idea to treat yourself. So far all the cash i have saved on not smoking i spent on the doctor (60) and the stupid prescription
    (40) for a crappy chest infection. Actually i am down €2 still its alot better than smoking :D:D
Hi ali! You quit 2 weeks, 2 days, 9 hours, 15 minutes & 55 seconds ago. You have *not* smoked 262 cigs, saved EUR 98 and added 21.83 hours to your life.

One word...Champix. I started taking it a few days before Christmas and stopped on New Years day. Was hard for the first week but am not too bad now. I used to smoke 20 a day. Not saying I'm out of the woods yet but this Champix (along with nicorette microtabs and ordinary gum) is really good.

you are not supposed to use NRT products whilst taking Champix!

Off em eleven days now and I'm feelin great :D I dont even get that urge to have one after meals and stuff anymore. Still kinda hibernating though, have'nt been out since I gave em up and have'nt called to see certain people (chain smokers who would be only delighted to see me back on them). Thing is though I dont know if this is the right thing to do.

Part of me is thinking I should stay away from tempting situations (pub, other smokers, alcohol, etc) where I would have habitually smoked, until I'm confident enough that I can deal with them and resist any temptations I might have. But the other half of me thinks I might be just putting off the inevitable. I will socialise again with these people, I will drink again, I will be in the pub again. I dont know whether to wait until I think I'm ready or just take the plunge?

I dunno what to do, I am REALLY determined to stay off them this time. I just want to give myself the best chance I can. I'm sure most of you have come across these worries already so any tips on how to go about socialising again would be great. :)

Hi Wreck! You quit 4 weeks, 1 day, 11 hours, 9 minutes & 45 seconds ago. You have *not* smoked 471 cigs, saved EUR 177 and added 1.64 days to your life.

So only one more day in January and I'll be off them for a month. To be honest it has been surprisingly easy, the only difficult patch was last weekend when the girl i've been seeing broke it off:(. Wanted nothing more than to drink and smoke, but went to the gym instead.

I've been off the alcohol for January as well, so I think this weekend is may be a bit of a test too. I've been to the pub a couple of times and a club once during the month and didn't really feel tempted to smoke, but it could well be a different story after a few pints.

Hope everyone else is still going strong.

So another month almost over, just wondering how everyone else is doing.

I'm actually starting to believe that I will never smoke again! I think I only had cravings once over the last few weeks, and haven't even been tempted when out drinking (smoking ban FTW I guess).

Hope everyone else is managing to stay off them.

Well done Wreck, I went through the same test the last few weekends, drinking and not smoking, I managed to stand in the smoking area chating to people and not think of smoking. :) I developed a big interest in eating good food and exercise.

    Well guys,

Well done I'm off them a week and 2 days but I cheated with champix. Managed to go out last Saturday night and stay in the smoking area all night without be ing tempted.

Think I may actually suceed this time as all other times on the patches I was having atleast 1/2 a cig every 3 days on the sly.

Hope I'll be leaving the same message as you in a month's time!!

Hi Wreck! You quit 1 year, 4 days, 10 hours, 46 minutes & 52 seconds ago. You have *not* smoked 5,556 cigs, saved EUR 2,084 and added 2.74 weeks to your life.

Woot! Man it felt great on New Year's Day to be able say I hadn't smoked for a year, and to have a different resolution 2009. (As it turns out the new resolution is surprisingly difficult, but that's another story). How did everyone else do?

So I've been off them nearly 2 days and feel pretty bad. Today I got pretty bad cravings, and rummaged through the house and found a cigarette, but ended up breaking it.

I keep convincing myself that I don't want to quit, so close to just going and buying some now. It's quite depressing that the only way I can quit is to go to bed, and isolate myself. Pretty bleak outlook tbh

And absolutely everything anyone does is pissing me off
