Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Any recommendations for offsite backup companies? I've been given the "opportunity" to set up our Disaster Recovery solution and have to investigate what's out there.

Also any recommendations for backup/recovery software?

We have six servers, all Windows, with one dual-booting Linux.

Might prove too costly for your needs if you've a **** load of data, but I've used http://www.keepITsafe.ie, who just resell the services at http://www.ahsay.com

You're more looking at something like this I would imagine:

You could also look at replicating your servers to a DR site/Datacentre. Is quite cost effective using new technologies such as Virtual Machines or VMware.

Tivoli Storage Manager is probably the best backup solution I've seen in years, however I have no idea on the costs...

If you looking for just tape storage, Iron Mountain.

That's exactly what I was looking for - I'll check it out.

I believe I am looking for two solutions - one is the backup solution (currently downloading a trial version of Tivoli Express edition) and the other being the offsite solution.

I'm a DBA by profession, so I am looking after the database backups as I normally would, it's the backup of the backups that is bothering me at the moment.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Your laughing so, the Tivoli command line is based on IBM's version of SQL.

Only thing I will say is that the bloody thing has nearly too many options, so it may take you a while to get your head around but give it a good trial anyway. All in all fantastic product. Excellent reporting functionality with it.

    What are your storage requirements?

    What's the budget like?

I'm getting around to working that out now, but as a ballpark figure, 3-4Gig.

Budget hasn't really been discussed, I would say in the region of €2000 - €3000 per year would be allowed. I think they are willing to spend a reasonable amount of money on backup, especially since we are relying on Windows backup currently.

Are they open to online backup?

They are. I am proposing a standard file based backup, along with online/offsite backup. Hence the thread title. :D

Personally I've used a number of ways.

What I might do here is get a beefy box from hertzer a data center in Denmark to a lovely box with 320-500GB and almost unlimited bandwidth for about 50e a month and use this as my "online" back storage space.

If they also require to tape off site iron mountain, file stores or DRM should do the trick.

    Hi Tom

I reckon keepITsafe is your best bet for a solution of this nature. We use them in our office and they seem to know their stuff.

Oh.. btw they monitor backups on a daily basis so all you have to do is forget about until they call!!

We have around 10GB and it was cheaper than the budget you mentioned.

    Happy hunting

Closing this. The thread hasn't been touched in a year. Only reason I'm not banning you is I'm not entirely sure that you're not a shill based on your other (helpful) posts.
