Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is it necessary to format the hard drive to install a second os?

You mean XP Media Centre, or the Media Centre of a different version of Vista?

^ Not in Home Basic. It is in Home Premium - upgrade maybe? Or try MediaPortal ( Free OSS: http://www.team-mediaportal.com/ )

Otherwise, to answer your original Q: You can shrink the Vista partition, create a new partition, boot with the install CD and install to the other partition. Back up data before attempting any of this.

Vista media center is built in to all Vistas except for Home edition so everything Home Premium + has Vista media center.

Nope , thats wrong , here is the Vista features chart ,

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/choose.mspx

As you can see , Media center is only included in Vista home premium and Vista Ultimate , it is not part of home basic or any flavour of Vista business.
The last one being the more important here as a Vostros and the like are getting really popular , and as they are a business machine you wont be getting media center.

If your going to be using media center with a large screen TV , then the one in Vista is streets ahead of XP MCE as it makes much better use of the screen space , especially with Music .
