Always had an intrest in shooting and i used to do alot of fly fishing and many of the guys who i used to fish with went shooting regulary but i wasnt old enough to own my own firearm so one of the lads brought me out and i loved it, is soon as i was old enough i aplied for my first licence and got it.
my first gun was a Mistral multi choke o/u game gun(2 triggers) loved it and got great use out of it, dont know why i got rid of it??

first gun was a leranga side by side really wasnt ment for me and gave me bad confidence at first because i think the stock was altered a bit for a previous user and i looked down the left barrel and yes it was a right hand gun
forget how i started to tell the truth

Walked past the stand for DURC in Trinity on my first day in college, thought "that looks interesting". Took a year to join up, but been plinking ever since.

I went to a charity fund raising shoot in Hilltop - had fired a shotgun and a .22 rifle a couple of times when I was a kid (20 years+ earlier) before that.

Got to shoot Clays, .22 rifle, archery.and .22 revolver.

Joined the club a couple of weeks later and have been up every week since.

Started with a single barrel Baikal (all I could afford as a student) when I was 18. Traded that in for a double barrel Baikal a few years later, it was a lovely gun, one of the early Baikals with a quality oiled stock choked half and full so you had to let the birds fly a bit before you shot them ;)

I won a clay pigeon shoot in the gun club with it once! Biggest mistake I ever made was trading it in for a Gunmark Kestrel:mad:

First one I owned was a Gunmark Sabel, doublr trigger s/s. Brand new in 1983, price was €240. I was still at secondry school. Thought I was the bee,s knees!

Grandfather taught my father who taught me about guns. Started going out when i was four. First gun i fired was a Stevens single barrel. Was hunting, stalking etc by 10 and father helped me buy my first shotgun when i was 16. A Spanish Orbit O/U from Watts Brothers on the Quays in Dublin (£435). Expensive for the day but well worth the money and still as good when i sold it as when i bought it. Bought numerous guns over the years but kept the first one until recently when i sold it to a family member who was also getting into shooting. Have never had a gun fit so well since. (sob, sob):p

Got a present of a second hand BSA Meteor air rifle when I was 18. Was fun for plinking but that was it. About a year later I saved my pennies and traded it in for a Weirhauch HW77 - a big underlever air rifle with a two stage trigger to die for. I shot some amount of bunnies with that baby. They were super plentiful at the time and I used to get up to 7 or 8 in a good evening.

I eventually bought my first puppy and a second hand italian SS. One of my first birds was a Wicklow grouse in the last surplus year - 1993. I enjoy all forms of shooting and try to maintain a bit of variety so I now keep my eye in with the odd clay, rabbit, pheasant, duck or deer.

a .22 savage rifle single shot given to me by my brother in 1975 along with a five pound note for my wages for working with him doing plumbing work. Very accurate took me 18 months to get the licence traded it in for a gevarm 22 semi auto broke two weeks later my heart ball of sh--te. My first shotgun a sxs same year could not hit a barn door with it, since then had semi autos and o/u's. Last year I bought a Beretta 471 Siler Hawke for my 50th always wated a sxs so whether i shoot good or bad with it it will stay with me till i pack in shooting as I love a sxs and intend mastering it. (left a blank on name of sxs as I just got a mental block cant think of make if i do i will repost)

First gun was a single barrel Baikal. I even splashed out the extra £5 for the ejector model, used to throw out full cartridges the minute you broke the gun. Spent a few quid a year later and bought an AYA Special Edition U/O. Kept the Baikal for checking snares, was very handy to stick the strap on it but eventually sold it.Have a 10/22 but am in 2 minds at the moment about keeping it. Splashed out about 5 years ago on a Miroku MK38. Cant see me changing again, find it a comfortable gun to use.

A budget model Mossberg pump, still have it, but it might have to go because of the new limits and the abandonment of the subsequent cert (€6 was it?) in favour of the new extortionate fees.

Shot for years through my FCA and Army days, but my first gun was a Browning Buckmark Pistol in 2005 . Highly recommended. A Fantastic pistol!!!!!

I started when I was about 16-17 with a BSA meteor brake barrel air rifle and then soon got a 12g single shotgun followed closely by a poachers folding 410 (it fitted nicely under your long coat ), I used and kept them for many years but sold up when I got married
Now many years later I again started when my 28 year old son started with guns on his small bit of land.

So a couple of years ago I got a 12g Mossberg pump action but soon sold it as i just couldn't get to like it. Now I have a 22lr, 223 and nearly a 308 for stalking

My first gun was a Haenel .177 air rifle my father gave me as a christmas present when I was four. I had been using his BSA .22 target rifle (propped up on sandbags) before that.

I used to go out with my father as a child. When I was old enough, I bought a new AYA Yoeman from Garnett and Keegans in Dublin for £62 and later a Brno .22 for £45 also new.

What was the selector for if it was a single barrell?

My first gun was also a single barrell Baikal from Garnett & Keegans. Cost me IR£80 new and came in a grey cardboard box. I think the yoke under the action was for breaking the gun if I remember correctly. I got so proficient with using it I was able to get two shots off nearly as quick as a lad with a double barrell S/S and two triggers. I'd carry a second shell caught between my fingers on the hand under the fore end. Once I fired the first shot I was able to break the gun (which ejected the empty) and drop in the full shell and close the gun in the blink of an eye. :)

Correct the lever under the action was for opening the gun

I got a second hand Baikal 27E o/u in 1986 cost me £200 still have it but thinking of getting rid for a new 22lr. My dad was into shooting but had basically given up by the time I hit 16. 1st November I used to go shooting with a neighbour and that had me hooked

    Slightly off topic as I don't own a gun:o
But...seeing as you lot know alot about the subject matter
There is a shooting place in a town nearby....can I just walk in and ask to join them or do I need to do some course before hand?? Are there strict conditions?

Every club has its own set of rules and regulations regarding membership. Best advice is to go to the club and speak to chairman, secretary or someone in authority. Ask them about what they do, the facilities, requirements for membership etc. Unless there is someonoe here from that specific club everything said to you would be best guess advice.

Go speak to them and get as much info as possible, then if you need specifics about certain aspects of what you were told by all means ask here again.

First gun is an Anschutz 1807L I bought after about six months of shooting in DURC. Have bought a Sako 75 I'm waiting on a licence for as a deer rifle as well.

My first firearm was a Webley Osprey .177 springer air rifle which I bought off Watts many years ago :D

I still have it, or more accurately its replacement (the rivets went in the original after about six months) although I hardly ever use it.
