    Subject: Midway shipping to Ireland/Europe

    Hi

I heard on an Irish Shooting Forum www.boards.ie that MidwayUSA are opening
up a site to deal directly with Irish customers overseas.

Could you let me know when this site will be up and running, because as a
keen FTR and Hunter enthusiast I wholeheartedly look forward to this day.

    Regards

You were never going to get an answer from the states no more than you would from the UK, Germany, etc.

To the best of my knowledge (someone that knows better can correct this) Midway the brand is a franchise. JG would buy the franchise for Ireland. He then bulk orders from the main "depot" which i presume is in America, but there could be a central depot in mainland Europe due to the number of branches currently in Europe. They ship the products over. He pays the taxes and duties then advertises them on HIS website which is named Midway due to the franchise rights. Then he sells them on at a profit.

It would be solely up to JG as to when and how the website goes live and nothing to do with any other country. They would only be interested in the amount of product he is ordering. Also customer services would not disclose details of a franchise owner even if they knew. The most info you may get is that there is a franchise run by Mr. X.

That's not personal information .243, it's just a first name.

Merging this thread with the earlier thread - which ironically, points out that the information Kilo just posted isn't personal information, .243 ...

It's public information which is available once you register a domain. Took me three shots to get it. Tried midway.ie and came up with some disability group in Meath, midway-ireland.ie was not registered and hit the jackpot with midwayireland.ie

The only personal information is the registrants name, which is hardly a secret since that and more is published on this thread and which is searchable on Google.

I posted it here because people will be able to check that site and see when it's live. The domain is registered almost a year (at least) btw.

Where does it say Tom Murphy??
Tom doesn't own the site like that anymore, not since boards.ie ltd came about. Hence the 'body corporate' part of that information.

Mind you, as rule five points out pretty explicitly, there's a difference between being able to get the information and what you do with it afterwards. As every shooter who took a licence application to the District Courts and had their name printed in the paper could tell you, just because you can get the information without breaking a law doesn't mean that publicising that information is harmless - depending on who you talk to, that kind of thing is either something to fight in the courts, something to be avoided through personal choice (even at the urging of the Gardai) or just something done by "scum".

It's a line everyone working in the PR side of things has to constantly keep in mind - how much information is too much information? You can't exactly have photos of nationals championships with all the faces all whited out and no names given - there's a long-running bad joke about how the Irish won medals in shooting in the Olympics but couldn't accept them as they'd have to take off the balaclavas - but at the same time, good PR doesn't need to know your house number (it doesn't really have to get beyond the township area, and that's generally only for local papers anyway).

Common sense tends to be a decent enough guide to this.
