    Hi,
Thinking of upgrading my current PC as I’ve seen some decent bundles on offer on Komplett. My current setup is an old Socket 754 based one . . .

    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Newcastle)
    Asus K8NE Deluxe mobo
    1gb RAM (Geil Value PC3200)
    Radeon X800 (AGP)

I have seen the following bundle and was wondering if it represents a good deal and would my PC be somewhat future proofed for say another 2 years at least . . .

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=338523

Along with the above bundle could you recommend a GFX card?

Finally I figure I will need to upgrade the PSU, would the following be a good buy or not?

PC will be used for gaming (80%) with some Photoshopping and DVD ripping making up the rest.

    Thanks for any advice/comments,
    sombaht

    First thing-whats your budget?
If you have 280e -go for 8800 gt( if you find any in sock), forget 8800 gts -not worth extra euros....., if you wanna spend under 200- Radeon HD3850 512MB or 3870.....it all depends on your budget....

    Rick,
I would spend €300 max on the gfx card if I thought it would last say 2 years. Would it be worth going with 2 8600GT working in SLI mode? Would it equal an 8800GT?

    Cheers,

no , go for single 8800 gt card ,for 300 e you can buy some nice OC edition or get a cheaper , with stock speed and OC it yourself....
regarding upgrade kit go for http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=338524 for extra 7 euro youll get 4 gb ram ...some might say there is no point to have 4 gb if your running Wind XP , but for this small difference its hard to resist...
    Good luck....

Thanks for that rick, it seems well worth the extra €7.

I dont think its wise to spend €300 on a video card now that cant play Crysis at full details,Nvidia and Ati's new range will be in full swing in march/april and theres not much games that are going to be more demanding than Crysis out in that time frame....In April you will be able to get a card twice as fast as 8800gt for €300

I would say a cheap in between card like a hd3850 would be your best choice,as you cant future proof your video card at the moment and the HD3850 is a great performer,it can play every game bar crysis at full settings....

Some charismatic Adonis posted recently that the Dabs Value GeForce 8800GTS 512MB can be purchased for €261.89 (+ delivery).

    .... from Dabs!

Seems too good to pass up really... if you're willing to wait for them to come back in stock.

Yeah I spotted that, almost seems too good to be true, excellent value. Dabs also have an 8800GTX for 390...

    Hmm,
Well given that there are new cards coming in a few months it might be worth while hanging on and see whats on offer. Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.
