    Folks,

Am currently looking at buying a second-hand Ford Galaxy, 1.9TD model in the UK and am wondering what they are like from an after care point of view and whether servicing etc. is straightforward and wether parts etc. need replacing fairly regularly or based on normal wear & tear conditions. Just some general anecdotal evidence would be great if anyone has any to hand. Tks. alot.

How much are you willing to spend? You could get a decent 2006 Galaxy Zetec for €25k. So it will still have a year or so warranty. Just make sure to get it checked for underbody corrosion, that would be my main worry. RAC offer full car checks starting at £125

Whatcar.co.uk recommend you check the following on used Galaxy's

1 The air-con system is a known weak spot on the Galaxy, so give it a thorough work-out during the test drive
2 The rearmost seats aren't easy to get at and they're heavy to lift in and out
3 The engines and gearboxes are robust as long as they are serviced on time. Brakes, too, give little cause for concern
4 The suspension can give trouble - and not just on cars that have been used for hauling heavy loads
5 On early cars, water leaks through the ventilation could affect the electrics

Thanks for the responses. I am looking at Cargiant as a possible location to buy http://www.cargiant.co.uk. I have been there once already and was impressed with the setup.

You'll find a few threads on this forum if you search for Cargiant, they are more expensive than private sales.
