I reckon mans messing with the nature will be our downfall. We now have gone to the moleculer level in our drive in improve what nature has already created ( GM crops).

Someday some nut will develop a weapon that acts on our DNA....a weapon thats complete...i.e no cure or antidote.

I also heard before that the earths Magnetic field is starting to weaken. Some theorists reckon the earth could be in the process of reveresing its Field....the results of which we dont know.

Then theres Cosmic bursts....unknown viruses.....sheesh!!!...theres heaps of ways we can go!!

But my money would be on Comet Collision.....have to say though....having watched the program on Discovery about what life would be like following a majorearth Impact....Id probably like to just be there for the show.....and be killed staright away. Wouldnt fancy the crap peeps would have to put up with following one!

imo not even if every nuclear bomb on earth was detonated at once would that lead to the end of civilization let alone the end of the world, billions would die but many would survive and outlive the nuclear winter

the end of the world would require a cataclysmic event like the sun becoming super nova, or another planet crashing into the earth.

a large comet or meteor hitting the earth would probably destroy all living things instantly even bacteria but that too would not result in the end of the world because millions of years later life would start to re-appear again.

For a while these predictions used to creep me out. I remembered hearing one which predicted that a planetary alignment on May 5th, 2000 was to be the end. Alas the day passed without incident. Then there was the 6/6/06 one - instead that day proved to be one of the best of my life!

After a while I just realised that people have been predicting this for generations and nothing has come to fruition. Personally I'd say it'll either be the sun's end of life or maybe if global warming gets too out of hand.

Its going to be whenever Atlas gets fed up of carrying the whole friggin' world on his back.

That or Zombies.

We would die from lack of food mainly. As the radiation would kill nearly ever animal and no plants could grow either and even if a few hundred survived they would be scattered and not have a diverse enough gene pool to prosper.

I'm optimistic. If there was a new disease that wiped out most of the world, some people somewhere would survive, same with wars or famine. Also, I doubt anyone would detonate enough nuclear weapons to destroy the world and die themselves.
The only way I see people being wiped out is a massive asteroid colliding with the planet, killing every living thing. There's also the possibility that Earth is in a false vacuum, the entire planet wiped out at the speed of light with absolutely no warning.

haven't been, doomsday predictions are usually associated with some sort of religious beliefs, i have a jehovah witness friend and evangelical friend so i hear about the world coming to an end all the time from them, governments will fall, economies will crumble blah, blah

the planet x thing has religious connotations like nearly all the doomsday predictions, however i am intrigued though not convinced by the mayan 2012 thing (only found out about it 3 days ago), again that is not a prediction of anything, though people are making up their own assumptions based on it; most of them dire of course because that sells books :eek:

Humans may die out but the world will end when the sun becomes a 'red giant' In fact just before this phase everything on the Earth will be burned to nothingness. Thats in about 1,000,000 years. Thats how the Earth will end. The sun will ultimately destroy this planet.
