I know how much the rent is, you can see that from the website. I'm wondering how much people spend per week on everything else - ESB, heating, etc...

I'm living in Rathfarnam and it's some hike into college every day. The house is cool and all, and I'm spending €500 per month on rent alone before bills such as ESB, NTL, Broadband, Bins and Gas. I'm strongly considering moving onto on-campus accommodation for final year - I think it'd suit me better, study wise, living with strangers, beside the library, etc...

Whaddya think? And anyone know anything about costs?

i don't think you'd get accomodation on campus if you live in rathfarnam?

but anyway - i live in glenomena so i'll answer the questions anyway.
electricity is unreal, a tenner lasts maybe 2/3 days so you end up paying bout 20 quid a week between six, more the colder it gets. maybe 30 quid.
i think thats all the bills we pay, the electricity cards cover heating and electricity.

When I was on campus I was spending way more then that! I was in Merville and in the warmer months we spent €5 each a week on heating and €10 a week during the colder months... but I was living with 3 people who were constantly freezing.

Other costs vary. Food is really cheep if you can bring meat from home and cook all your meals. Socialising costs go down too cos no matter where you go you'll always be able to find people needing to get back to campus or there abouts. If not 46N goes every night

500 a month in Rathfarnham? Thats an absolute disgrace - even clonskeagh/donnybrook are cheaper for single rooms.

whats the diference between a license to reside and a lease?? I hear UCD have a license to reside system instead of a lease.

Not sure, but it could very well mean it gives ucd more power. i.e throw you out on your ear with no legal constraints, whereas leases tie you down to that spot for a set period of time ??

Yeah basically (or at least to my untrained eye) the Lisence to Reside doesnt offer the same rights of tenancy normally afforded to patrons of accomodation.. i.e. UCD get more power
